That’s a Wrap: May 2022

That's a Wrap

I don’t want to jinx myself, but I feel like I started to get my blogging groove back in May. Or, at any rate, it was a little more lively here on the blog in May than it’s been for a very long time.

I didn’t get into a whole lot in May. Mostly I found ways to enjoy the weather when it was playing nice. My balcony has been getting a workout. It really is my favorite place to read and blog. In a fun twist, Muffin seems to love it as much as I do. Anytime I’m outside, she wants to be out there with me, so her playpen has become a permanent fixture. She’ll follow me outside and go right into the playpen. I zip it up and she enjoys the sites and sounds while I do whatever I’m doing at that moment. She’s a good little friend.

May was a big month for Muffin! She turned one AND we celebrated our one-month gotchaversary. We continue to get to know each other and settle further in. She’s such good company and a nearly constant source of amusement. We haven’t really gotten quite to the cuddles/snuggles stage just yet, but I have high hopes. You know, as long as I don’t do nonsense like this again. (Which we all know I will.) πŸ˜‚

May wasn’t my best reading month β€” I read 6 and DNF’d 5 β€” but I really didn’t make all that much time for reading either. I think the main issue is when the world went to shit a couple of weeks ago, I decided it was time to rewatch a favorite comfort show for distraction. I chose Gilmore Girls, which I’ve only seen all the way through once before. So I’m spending a lot more time paying attention to the show than I am reading. Plus, the uptick in blogging took away some of that reading time. I need to get back into the habit of putting on an audiobook while I blog, but … it’s a little tough to write a review while listening to another book. But, I digress. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ It is what it is.

By the Numbers

  • Total number of books read β€” 6 (+5 DNF)
    • Contemporary romance: 6
  • Format β€”
    • Audiobooks: 2
    • Print books: 3
    • Ebooks: 1
  • Library books: 0
  • Review copies: 4
  • New-to-me authors: 1
  • Re-reads: 0

Reading Challenges Update

The Goodreads Reading Challenge is first up! Even though I read fewer books in May, I’m still feeling pretty good about my reading for the year.

Goodreads Reading Challenge May Update

My goal for the 2022 Tackle My TBR Reading Challenge is four books each month. I read/DNF’d 7 in May.

Total: 36/48

The only other long-term challenge I’m doing this year is #12Reads12FriendsΒ (created by @bookwormgram). The gist of this one is that you solicit recommendations from friends and select twelve of them to read. Spoiler alert: I didn’t get caught up in May. I might just give up on this one honestly.

Total: 2/12

While not an official challenge, per se, one of the things I’m doing this year is tracking how much money I’ve saved by using my library cards. I have a feeling my mind is going to be blown when I see the yearly total.

April savings: $26.22
2022 total: $507.66

Looking Ahead

I’m hoping the weather stays reasonable enough in June that I can continue to spend a little bit of time outside. I’m just not one who can deal well with extreme heat and humidity. Add that to the fact my balcony is in direct sunlight for like 10 hours of the day and my time outdoors is seriously limited when it gets super hot or humid. Or both. Weekend mornings are my favorite times to be out there, but that’s also the time when I like to run errands. It’s all about balance, I guess! I’m also looking forward to going home in June. My plans were foiled in April, but here’s hoping I can make it happen this month. It’ll be nice to get away for a few days, even though gas prices aren’t as nice.

June releases I’m excited about

How to Fake It in Hollywood Maggie Moves On A Thousand Miles
I listened to the audio of this book when it was released earlier in the year and thoroughly enjoyed it. The ebook comes out on June 7 if you prefer to consume books that way.

  1. Love the pictures of Muffin! Yay for getting back into blogging! I want a cover of some sort for my back patio, and I’d love to sit outside and blog instead of inside all the time too! I’m sorry to see you DNF Make Up Break Up, since I just traded for a copy of that. πŸ™ Oh well. I may not even start it, may just put it back in my trade pile. Hope you have a great June!
