That’s a Wrap: June 2021

That's a Wrap

It’s almost mid-July, so naturally, I’m just now getting my June recap together. Oops. Best of intentions and all that…

I don’t really have a lot to say about June, honestly. It was a pretty quiet month. Between the cicadas and the heatwave — and the ongoing pandemic — I didn’t spend a whole lot of time outside of my apartment. I did finally get my hair cut and I went to my favorite used bookstore. Those were probably the highlights of my month. I listened to a lot of audiobooks, did quite a bit of sewing and completed some projects around my apartment. Quite the exciting life. 😉

I did have a solid reading month. As long as you ignore those DNFs anyhow. The rest of the books I read were either 4 or 5 stars. I reread my top favorite book for the second time this year — and the 20th time overall. So, no complaints on the reading front.

Now let’s talk about the books…

Reading Challenges Update

First up, the Goodreads Reading Challenge! I’m way, way ahead for the year. What a change from last year! The numbers are a little off because I didn’t get my screenshot on the first day of July, but close enough.

June Goodreads

My goal for the 2021 Tackle My TBR Reading Challenge is four books each month. I read SEVEN in June.

Total: 38/48

Claudette Colvin Act Your Age Eve Brown 1619 Project Elementary Romantic Calculus Hang the Moon Autoboyography Christina Lauren

The only other long-term challenge I’m doing this year is #12Reads12Friends (created by @bookwormgram). The gist of this one is you solicit recommendations from friends and select twelve of them to read. Yes, one per month. My June pick was Sea of Ruin by Pam Godwin (rec’d by @ideallyinspiredreviews). I hated it. I listened to five trauma-filled chapters before DNFing and attempting to forget it ever existed. I did solicit a replacement pick from my followers but I didn’t get a chance to finish it before the month ended. More on it in July’s recap!

Total: 5/12

Looking Ahead

The world is definitely opening up, but after spending more than a year in a pandemic lifestyle, I’m still not quite ready to DO ALL THE THINGS. Combine my “life after a pandemic anxiety” with our current heatwave and the freaking cicadas that have invaded Virginia and I’m still spending the bulk of my time indoors. You can find me reading, watching Netflix, sewing or spending time on my balcony after the cicadas have gone in for the night.

If you want to know more about what’s going on in my world, follow me on Instagram. I have a bookish one (@kimberlyfayereads) and a non-bookish one (@kimberlyfaye_). On the bookish one, you’ll find… lots of books. (And story templates dealing with books!) On the non-bookish one, you’ll find the other side of my life… mostly my cat and some random life photos.

Stay safe and healthy!
