That’s a Wrap: February 2022

That's a Wrap

Oh, look. It’s nearly April and I haven’t posted my February recap yet. Better late than never?

I’ve been putting off this update. (No shit, right?) February was a pretty crappy month for me personally. Early on in the month, I learned my sweet C.A.T.’s arthritis was progressing to a point where he was needed pain medicine regularly and that the time for me to make a quality of life decision for him was coming sooner than I was ready. Not that I was ever going to be ready, honestly. We had several weeks of ups and downs before I said goodbye on February 28. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I’m grateful I had several weeks of pretty much around-the-clock time with him, but they weren’t easy weeks for either of us. He was my best boy for nearly 18 years and I miss him terribly.

As you might imagine, my priorities were elsewhere so I didn’t read a lot and blogging was the last thing on my mind. If I’m being honest, I’ve been struggling to find a new normal since. My apartment feels so empty without him. I’ve had to adjust to a lot — life without him and a partial return to the office for work. Much of March has been a real struggle, but I think I’m getting into the rhythm of my new normal. Or my new-for-now normal anyhow. At some point in the not too distant future, I will think about adopting again and that will be another, albeit happier, adjustment. But it will be bittersweet in a lot of ways, too.

So, yeah. That’s what’s been going on in my world. I’ve had better months, that’s for sure.

Now that I’ve depressed both of us, let’s talk books.

Please note: my favorites in February were all rereads. I was definitely all about the comfort reads.

Reading Challenges Update

First up, the Goodreads Reading Challenge! February wasn’t my strongest reading month, but I still managed to stay ahead of my goal. I also didn’t take a screenshot in early March for obvious reasons.

My goal for the 2022 Tackle My TBR Reading Challenge is four books each month. I read 5 in February.

Total: 16/48

The only other long-term challenge I’m doing this year is #12Reads12Friends (created by @bookwormgram). The gist of this one is you solicit recommendations from friends and select twelve of them to read. Yes, that’s one per month. February was better than January, but it still wasn’t love for me. I did love the representation of a fmc (female main character) in a wheelchair, but it was more erotic romance than contemporary romance and that doesn’t always work for me.

Total: 2/12

While not an official challenge, per se, one of the things I’m doing this year is tracking how much money I’ve saved by using my library cards. I have a feeling my mind is going to be blown when I see the yearly total. (Of course, it’s not a perfect science for a lot of reasons, but it’s still fascinating to track. (I’m also a total nerd who loves a good spreadsheet, so in case you’re interested in my tracking, enjoy.)

February savings: $28.50
2022 total: $283.48

Looking Ahead

It feels weird to include anything here since this is a February wrap up and it’s almost April now, but I didn’t want to change up my template.
