My rating:

After nearly a year and a half of grieving the loss of her husband, twenty-seven year old Alexa Sullivan Tate is headed back to her hometown after a decade of being away. She has no idea her high school crush, Jace McAllister, the guy who stole her heart the same night that he broke it, is more than ready to pick up the pieces.

Jace has spent the last ten years in the Army defusing bomb after bomb, trying to forget the girl who ignited all his passions. Little does he know that the spark still exists.

Ten years ago they had smoldering chemistry, but the spark between them now might light a fuse that leads to an explosion even Jace can't stop. Not that he wants to. If only Alexa can get past her guilt and trust her heart again.

But how do you put it all on the line when you've already lost everything once before?

*Mature Audiences only, 18+. While this is a series, each book will be standalone.

My Thoughts

I’ve read a lot of second chance romances, but Ignite will always stand out for me as being among the best of the best. It was everything a second chance story should be: believable, sweet, charming, sexy, and downright HOT. The flow of the story was wonderful. It covers a long span of time but does so without ever dragging. I loved everything about this book.

“You just don’t get it. You’ve never gotten it. It makes me crazy, but I also love that about you, Alexa. You’re so unaware that it drives me insane.”

Lexi was a girl after my own heart. She’s spunky and knows what she wants. Additionally, she’s a huge sports fan and I can totally relate. Except my sport is football and my team is the Steelers. (Which, by the way, made me LOVE the story about how she and her husband met. It was a wonderful touch. I know ALL about that Cincinnati/Pittsburgh rivalry.) 🙂 She was so young to have gone through the loss of a husband and the pain and guilt she felt broke my heart.

“He was just Jace. My confidant. My shoulder. My best friend. And the first guy I ever loved.”

Jace is pretty much the perfect book boyfriend. He’s hot and sexy – and military to boot! He was also sweet and very obviously cared for Lexi. He was so damns swoony. I loved their backstory and that, in a bit of a role reversal from most books of the genre, he was the one pining away for her after all those years. Friends-first love is always the best. This second chance was for both of them. They loved each other in high school but waited too long to make a move. Life took them in different directions and then thrust them back together for this chance. They didn’t waste it.

“Oh, you think this is funny? Well, Sierra was right! You are like a blue clot aster! Did you have some little Yoda-like creature teach you his ways? Fuck her, do not. Come, she cannot. Wait, no, that doesn’t work. Jedis use light sabers, and clearly you have an issue with using yours!”

Jeremy and Sierra were wonderful secondary characters. Their chemistry jumped off the page and they were both great friends to Lexi and Jace. There were some downright hysterical moments that had me literally laughing out loud. “Blue clit master?” Brilliant.

“Alexa, I’ve never forgotten about you. I’ve never had a connection with any other woman like the one you and I had – that I know we still have. You were my only. You were it for me. My home run. My grand slam. My perfect game. I’ve never, I will never, ever want anyone but you,” he confesses.

If you enjoy second chance romances with humor and heart, with characters you just can’t forget, sexy scenes that are steaming HOT, a love that’s meant to be and an ending that will leave you smiling for days, Ignite is your book. Of course, it made me shed a few tears along the way, too. I thoroughly enjoyed Tessa’s writing, character, and story and I can’t wait to read more from her.
