He's addicted to booze. She's addicted to sex...staying sober is only half the battle.

No. More. Sex.

Those are the three words Lily Calloway fears the most. But Loren Hale is determined to be with Lily without enabling her dangerous compulsions. With their new living situation—sleeping in the same bed, for real, together—Lily has new battles. Like not jumping Lo’s bones every night. Not being consumed by sex and his body.

Loren plans to stay sober, to right all of his wrongs. So when someone threatens to expose Lily’s secret to her family and the public, he promises that he’ll do anything to protect her. But with old enemies surfacing, Lo has more at stake than his sobriety.

They will torment Lily until Lo breaks.

And his worst fear isn’t relapsing. He hears the end. He sees it. The one thing that could change everything. Just three words.

No. More. Us.

My Thoughts

Addicted for Now was an intense read about addiction, relationships, and revenge. It dealt with alcoholism and sex addiction in a very real, brutally honest way. It’s not easy to read, but it’s worth it. It’s beautifully written with damaged characters that you can’t help but cheer on.

“I’m scared,” I start again, “that there’s going to be a point where you become angry and bitter and resentful every time I tell you to stop, that you realize someone else can give you what you want.”
“No one else could ever give me what I want,” she breathes. “I only want you.”

This book picks up immediately after Loren returns from rehab, where he was trying to kick his addiction to alcohol. While he was trying to get clean, his girlfriend Lily was battling her sex addiction. Now they’re back together and, in addition to fighting their addictions, they are battling outside forces as well. Namely the person who is threatening to expose Lily’s addiction. There’s family drama and friend drama and just a lot of very tough situations.

Both Lo and Lily’s addictions are described in such detail that it was uncomfortable to read about at times, but that’s part of what makes this book stand out so much in my mind. I certainly won’t forget it anytime soon. Though it was nearly 500 pages long, I devoured this book in less than a day. I can’t say I fell in love with Lo and Lily, but I felt sympathy for them. I wanted them to each be able to beat their addictions, prevail over the outside forces and be able to live a normal life… together. Their love is strong and very real, their chemistry powerful. Surely they can overcome anything together, right?

There’s something incredibly special about this series. I think it’s the combination of flawed characters who are desperately trying to overcome their addictions, a storyline that is unique, and the brutally-honest depiction of the struggles of addiction. The dual POV really allows the reader to get inside the characters’ heads and understand more fully where each of them is coming from and the battle they fight constantly.

The other thing I love about this series is the secondary characters. Each of them has depth and really contributes a ton to the story. Lily’s sisters Rose and Daisy are both wonderful but in completely different ways. Serious, virginal Rose isn’t someone I would normally connect with, but she is such a driving force in Lily’s life that I can’t help but love her. Her younger sister Daisy provides entertainment and forehead-slapping moments of exasperation. Conner and Ryke are amazing. I’m thrilled to learn that these characters will be getting books of their own in the near future. (Not the near enough future, for my liking, but you know…)

I had a great deal of respect for Krista and Becca Ritchie after reading Addicted to You. They took the story one step further in Addicted for Now. Along the way, they’ve landed on my auto-buy author list, too. These sisters write books that push me out of my comfort zone and really make me think while keeping me completely engrossed in the journey their characters are taking.
