That’s a Wrap: May 2021

That's a Wrap

Can you believe we’re rapidly approaching the second half of 2021? Time sure flies, right? You might have noticed things have been really quiet around here lately. I’m going to do my best to try to breathe some new life into this space for the rest of the year. I’m hopeful I can get back into the blogging groove because I do miss it sometimes. It’s just hard to get started again once you’ve been inactive for a while.

May flew by with few highlights if I’m being honest. Hashtag pandemic life, am I right? The best news is I’m fully vaccinated. Yay, science! Of course, I’m not changing a whole lot about my life at this point either. I’m still in total wait-and-see mode as everything seems to open up and attempt to go back to normal. The most notable change is that I don’t wear TWO masks when I run errands these days. I’m down to one and not planning to give it up anytime soon. I did finally go for a massage a couple of weeks ago. That was a long-overdue indulgence after 14 months. I also scheduled my first hair appointment since the beginning of February 2020 for later in June. My hair is out of control, longer than it’s been since I was a kid. I’m not planning to go back to my super short style, but I need to do something with it. I’m just not sure what that “something” is yet…

My only other real highlight is that I finally opened my Etsy shop! I’ve been so pleased by the response and support I’ve received since opening. Also, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed matching new fabrics and actually doing the sewing. There’s nothing quite like getting excited messages from customers or seeing your creation in someone else’s photos. 😍 My sewing time also gives me a great excuse to read more audiobooks, which has vastly improved my reading.

Now let’s talk about the books…

Reading Challenges Update

First up, the Goodreads Reading Challenge! This is a wee bit off since we’re a few days into June, but I’d just like to point out I AM AHEAD. And by quite a bit! I’m not sure this progress is sustainable but we’ll see what the rest of June brings.

Goodreads Challenge May

My goal for the 2021 Tackle My TBR Reading Challenge is four books each month. I read TEN in May!

Total: 31/48

Love Game A Daring Arrangement My Darling Duke The Hate U Give The Duke Heist Beach Read The Scandalous Dissolute No Good Mr Wright Sandcastle Beach

The only other long-term challenge I’m doing this year is #12Reads12Friends (created by @bookwormgram). The gist of this one is you solicit recommendations from friends and select twelve of them to read. Yes, one per month. My May pick was Beach Read and it was rec’d by Lubnaa (@romancelibrary). Beach Read has been on my TBR for ages, but I was scared it would fall victim to the hype monster after months of seeing friends rave over it. Fortunately, this wasn’t the case. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit.

Total: 5/12

Looking Ahead

The world is definitely opening up, but after spending more than a year in a pandemic lifestyle, I’m still not quite ready to DO ALL THE THINGS. Combine my “life after a pandemic anxiety” with our current heatwave and the freaking cicadas that have invaded Virginia and I’m still spending the bulk of my time indoors. You can find me reading, watching Netflix, sewing or spending time on my balcony after the cicadas have gone in for the night.

June releases I’m excited about

Reel To Sir with Love One Last Stop

If you want to know more about what’s going on in my world, follow me on Instagram. I have a bookish one (@kimberlyfayereads) and a non-bookish one (@kimberlyfaye_). On the bookish one, you’ll find… lots of books. (And story templates dealing with books!) On the non-bookish one, you’ll find the other side of my life… mostly my cat and some random life photos.

Stay safe and healthy!

  1. My Tackle Your TBR isn’t going that great. Too many new books that I keep signing up for! I need to remedy that. Yeah, I can’t believe we are almost halfway through the year! I actually am looking to go ahead and buy my 2022 planner refill pages because I already see ARCs for next year that I want to put in there. Hope you have a good June!
