Blogtober Reflections

When I first decided to tackle Blogtober, I said I hoped it would help me get my blogging groove back. And you know what? It really did help.

Blogtober was a stretch for me. My blog has been super quiet the last few months because I’ve been spending most of my time over on bookstagram. But, I pay for this blog so I really should use it more. Plus I forgot how nice it is to muddle things through in long-form. Bookstagram is great for discussion and recs, but you only have so many characters to work with. I can be as long-winded as I want on here. 😂

If I’m going to be entirely honest, I have to own up to backdating a few posts for Blogtober. Is that cheating? Maybe, but I’m not all that concerned about it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I committed to a post each day for October and I did it. Is backdating all that different than scheduling? Don’t answer that. 😂 Let me feel good about my 31 posts. (Or soon-to-be 31 when tomorrow’s post goes live.)

As proud as I am of myself for completing Blogtober, I think I’m most proud of the balance I struck with my posts. When I committed to it, I said I didn’t want to do 31 days of reviews. I also didn’t want to do a bunch of “meme” style posts. I didn’t think I’d be able to come up with topics for a bunch of discussion posts, but I did! Now I’m not sure how interesting they were for anyone else, but I had fun with all of them. That’s what matters most, right? Content I’M happy with.

Of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that bookstagram suffered a bit while I was focused on Blogtober. What can I say? I can’t do it all, but I can try to find a better balance and stay active on both sites. Ah, balance. The constant struggle, amirite?

Now’s the real challenge — keeping the blog active in the coming months. A post a day isn’t realistic in the long term, but I can do better than I have the last few months. Prior to October, of course, because I rocked that. The good news is I’ve found a couple of new post types to add to my monthly calendar AND I’ve got a whole slew of things I want to talk about. Hopefully, I’ll be able to keep up the momentum without burning myself out.
