Oh hai, October. How you doing? Are you going to actually bring autumn to DC or just tease me like September did? I’m hoping it’s not the latter.
Not to rush the year or anything, since it’s going fast enough as it is, but I’m not sorry to see September go. Last month kicked my ass. It’s amazing the impact a couple big, exhausting work projects can have on every part of your day. It wasn’t as though long hours or anything kept from reading and blogging, but when I got home at night, the last thing I wanted to do was think. I was much happier just staring at the TV or working on a puzzle. Hopefully things calm down a bit this month because I might have over-committed myself on the blogging side of things for October!
First up, I’m co-hosting ARCtober again this year! I’ve decided I’m going to try to read 15 ARCs this month. That shouldn’t be THAT MUCH of a stretch for me, but time will tell… Regardless, after more or less ignoring ARCs in September, I have some catching up to do. If you’re like me, join me in the challenge!
The bigger leap for me for October is Blogtober. You know, where you post daily for the entire month. I’m a little worried about this one, but I’m also hoping that I can find my blogging groove again while doing this challenge. I really need to. I’m absolutely embarrassed to admit I only posted five times in September. FIVE. 🙈 Now, I’m running a very active bookstagram account which is more or less like a blog in a lot of ways, but none of that good stuff is making its way over here. Wish me luck! I think I’m going to need it.
Last but absolutely not least, the Kissing Book Club chose our buddy read for October! I didn’t finish my reread of September’s book, Act Like It, until the next-to-last day of the month so I’m determined to do better with this one. Hopefully it’ll be easier as I’ve not read it before and it’s been on my TBR for ages. If you’ve not already joined us in our Goodreads group, you should think about it. It’s fun and fairly active, with book discussions and recs from other romance loving readers!
As much as I grump over September, it wasn’t entirely without some fun moments. I got to catch up with a couple friends who don’t live around here, went to a baseball game to honor the memory of a colleague and friend who passed away this summer, and went to an awesome book event at a local bookstore. I also watched *a lot* of football and finished some little projects around my apartment. The reading side of things was less than stellar, considering half the books I read were audiobook shorts. But hey, any reading counts, right? I’m ready for a clean slate and a new month.
If you want to know more about what’s going on in my world, follow me on Instagram. I have a bookish one (@kimberlyfayereads) and a non-bookish one (@kimberlyfaye_). On the bookish one, you’ll find… lots of books. (And story templates dealing with books!) On the non-bookish one, you’ll find the other side of my life… my cats, travels, etc.

Reading Challenges Update
First up, the Goodreads Reading Challenge! I’m feeling pretty good about this one. I got so far ahead early on in the year, I should have no trouble meeting it. And then some.
My goal for the 2019 Tackle My TBR is four books each month. I read seven in September, but reviewed none. The topic for January was I read banned books, and ironically, I didn’t manage to read a banned book. Oops.
This is my second year in a row doing an audiobook-focused challenge. My goal for the 2019 Audiobook Challenge is three books each month. I read six in September, which pushed me over my goal! Provided you count novellas. Which, to be clear, I do.
I think I’m finally ready to accept that I am not going to finish the Romanceopoly challenge. I got off to a rough start with it in January and I feel like I’ve been playing catch-up (or trying to) since. I’m still going to hit as many of the squares as I can, but I’m not going to kill myself to do it. It’s a fantastic challenge. So clever. It has pushed me to read outside my typical genre preferences in romance, but I have struggled to fit the books in. We’ll see where I finish the year. 🤷🏻♀️
With any luck (or maybe I should say commitment on my part), October will be a pretty busy month here on the blog. Between the ARCtober Reading Challenge I’m co-hosting with my awesome friend Malia and the fact I decided to try to tackle my first Blogtober, you’re probably going to get sick of seeing posts from me. 😂 Outside of that, I don’t have a lot going on in October. Which is probably a good thing because I have a lot of reading and writing ahead of me. And heaven knows I’m out of practice at this point. October should be a month of reading, blogging, watching football and, hopefully, cooler weather. I’m done with summer.
Now, onto the books!
October Book(s) I Need in My Life Immediately!
I was lucky to get advance copies of all of my most anticipated October releases!
October releases I need to read immediately!
These upcoming releases are at the top of my TBR! Soon, my pretties, soon.
Book(s) YOU need in YOUR life immediately!
September wasn’t my best reading month. I spent most of my reading time listening to audiobooks shorts because that’s about all the attention span I’ve had. All that said? I read exactly zero October releases early.
That’s a wrap! I hope you have a great month ahead!
How’d your September go?
