Annie Cassidy dreams of being the next Nora Ephron. She spends her days writing screenplays, rewatching Sleepless in Seattle, and waiting for her movie-perfect meet-cute. If she could just find her own Tom Hanks—a man who’s sweet, sensitive, and possibly owns a houseboat—her problems would disappear and her life would be perfect. But Tom Hanks is nowhere in sight.

When a movie starts filming in her neighborhood and Annie gets a job on set, it seems like a sign. Then Annie meets the lead actor, Drew Danforth, a cocky prankster who couldn’t be less like Tom Hanks if he tried. Their meet-cute is more of a meet-fail, but soon Annie finds herself sharing some classic rom-com moments with Drew. Her Tom Hanks can’t be an actor who’s leaving town in a matter of days...can he?

In Review: My Thoughts

Waiting for Tom Hanks was one of my most highly anticipated books of 2019. I fell in love with the cover and the idea of a rom com-obsessed woman getting a chance at her own happily ever after. The idea of that HEA coming with her own swoony actor? That’s pretty much the dream, isn’t it? At any rate, this book was absolutely adorable and totally worth the wait.

I adored this book. It had me quite literally laughing out loud and made me want to binge watch all my old favorite rom coms when I finished. It’s a fairly light book overall, but there’s some sadness as Annie’s still dealing with the loss of her mom. The romance was sweet and swoony. I really enjoyed watching Annie and Drew find their way to each other, even if I did get a little tired of Annie repeatedly pushing him away. Perhaps even more than that, I loved the characters and how their lives were all intertwined. This cast is wonderful. I’m already anxiously awaiting Chloe’s story and I can’t wait to see what comes after that.

Favorite Quotes:

My Tom Hanks is out there, and I’m not going to settle until I find him.

I want real love. While You Were Sleeping love. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan love.

This guy looks like he’ll age well, like a wine or a cheese or a Clooney.

“It’s not like being in love fixes everything for them, because it doesn’t fix everything in real life. It just… makes everything bearable. Better.”

Chloe might be right. I might actually, finally be in my romantic comedy.
