Five Things Friday

TGIF, y’all! I’m so happy it’s Friday and that I get to share my mini weekly recap with you. Keep reading to see some of my new books and what was keeping me busy this week!

If you’ve been visiting my blog for awhile now, you might know that Five Things Friday was born out of a desire to include more of ME on my blog. I was writing about a new topic each week, but honestly, that got kinda old. It was hard to come up with something new each week. You know what that means — it was time to mix things up a bit. So, my current iteration of FTF was born… with some inspiration from Brandie @ Running on Words & Wine.

FAVORITE BOOK OF THE WEEK

Next Year in Havana

Y’all. This book. If I’m totally honest, I wasn’t sure I would ever read it — even though Chanel Cleeton is one of my favorite authors. I didn’t think historical fiction was something I would be interested in. Fast forward to 2019, when I did my first roll for Romanceopoly and it landed on Memory Lane and I had to pick a historical fiction to read. I didn’t hesitate before deciding to give this one a shot. It was AMAZING. In fact, I haven’t been able to pick up another book since I finished it on MONDAY. Yes, MONDAY. Mark my words, Next Year in Havana will be on my top 10 of 2019 here in a few months. If you’ve been holding off on reading it for some reason, don’t. Read it. You won’t be sorry.

WHEN I WASN’T READING

Was this a crazy busy week for everyone, or is it just me? I wasn’t sure it’d ever be Friday. I didn’t do much reading this week because of the aforementioned wicked book hangover from Next Year in Havana. Last weekend, I did some shopping. I’m on the hunt for a new chair for the “reading nook” (aka corner) in my bedroom. No luck so far. This week was basically work and adulting, save for one dinner with a former colleague/current friend. It was nice to catch up. I know I don’t talk much about my day job on here, but I have to mention one super fun thing from this week. For the last year or so, I’ve been on a team working on our educational foundation’s new children’s book publishing company. Our first book released on Tuesday and I’m SO IN LOVE with it. I’m thrilled it’s out in the world for everyone to see/buy/enjoy. If you’re interested in checking that out, it’s called Right This Very Minute.

PIC OF THE WEEK

You know, bookstagram is funny sometimes. This was one of those times. I fell in LOVE with this photo when I took it. I couldn’t wait to upload it. It got ridiculously little engagement. Yet, often there are photos I’m just kinda “meh” about… the ones I totally phone in, and they end up getting tons of engagement. Social media, y’all.

LOOKING AHEAD

Hey hey, tomorrow’s my birthday! It’s a big round number birthday, but I’m not freaking out or anything. I’ve also not really got any plans. I’m just going to see where the day takes me, see what I’m in the mood to get into. Honestly it’ll probably be some shopping and errands and treating myself to a nice lunch before I come home and read. And I’m totally ok with that. After years of making big birthday plans, only to have them derailed by a freaking snowstorm or something, I’ve learned not to do that anymore. I’m looking forward to celebrating it with friends in March during ApollyCon, though.
