Here's to

I fell in love with Teagan Hunter’s Let’s Get Textual a few months ago and decided to binge her backlist. The Here’s To series seemed like a great place to start! It was a totally bingeable series.

HUDSON
When I became a single father at seventeen, I knew my path wasn't going to be easy. Hell, sometimes it sucked. Year after year, I tirelessly busted my ass until my business was booming. Until my daughter was happy. Until life? It was good. Settled.

But sometimes being settled is overrated. Boring. Especially when a little excitement walks through my door in the shape of Rae Kamden. With her sarcastic mouth and smartass comebacks, she's the type of girl still sowing her wild oats and not looking to settle. Not with a guy like me.

RAE
I've been stuck in this small town since I was a child and nothing is going to keep me here. Not anymore. Done being tied down, I'm out of here the first chance I get. This town can kiss my ass goodbye.

I'm twenty-two. Single. Unwilling to settle. But if I did? It wouldn't be with Hudson Tamell.

So explain to me why the moment he looks up from under the hood of my car, the sarcastic replies on my lips come out sounding sweeter. Why does he make me want to settle down, right here, with him?

That's not what I wanted. But maybe it's what I need.

in review my thoughts

I’m a total sucker for a good single dad romance! Hunter and his daughter, Joey, gave me all the feels. I adored both of them. Rae was an interesting heroine. Her complete lack of a filter was shocking at times, but somehow it also worked. You always knew where you stood with her, that’s for sure. I really liked the progression of the story and the romance in Here’s to Tomorrow. It was really easy to root for Rae and Hunter.

This was a quick and easy, sexy and swoony read. There was a rather unexpected revelation at the end of the book that got me in the feels. Fate’s a funny thing. I was hooked from the start and couldn’t wait to jump headfirst into the next book in the series!

FAVORITE QUOTES

It’s not that I need someone in my life, but I want one. Someone to talk to, to connect with, to just… be with.

HUDSON
I've been living in a blissful bubble for nearly a year now. Everything with Rae is perfect, and I feel like we're on the fast track to forever.

Then I go and do something stupid and suddenly we're speeding toward Splitsville. Well, to be fair, I've been doing something stupid. I just haven't had the balls to tell her about it.

It could break us. Or make us stronger. I'm only hoping she sees things my way...

RAE
I never anticipated my life looking like it does, living with my boyfriend and his eight-year-old daughter. But here I am, happier than I could have ever imagined.

Until Hudson screws it all up, telling lie after lie after freakin' lie. But he thinks he's "doing the right thing". He doesn't see things my way...

How am I supposed to say yes to forever when I can't even trust my tomorrow?

Maybe this was all a mistake...

in review my thoughts

Ok, so here’s the thing… I tend to get a little nervous when a follow-up novella is released after a couple has allegedly found their HEA. Especially when it’s obvious, as it was with Here’s to Forever, that said couple will be tested again. But, at the same time, I’m a greedy reader who likes to get as much story as I can about a couple I liked. So I was obviously conflicted going into Here’s to Forever. Getting more Hunter and Rae was a good thing, but I was nervous about what was to come.

Turns out I really didn’t need to be all that nervous. I mean, things were rocky and Hunter and Rae were absolutely tested. BUT, their story also felt more complete at the conclusion of this novella. It’s also worth noting if you’re planning to binge the series, thinking about saving this one until the end. Otherwise, you will spoil some pretty big events for yourself. I learned that lesson the hard way! But, it all worked out. This novella did deal with some pretty heavy issues, but did it in a way I respected. A great addition to the series.

HER
My entire life has been "perfect" for as long as I can remember. A loving family, a boyfriend who adores me, and anything I wanted, I got. But it was all a lie, a façade. My family isn't loving, my boyfriend is more interested in my body than my mind, and it turns out money can't buy happiness.

I've felt lost and stuck for far too long. Then, everything changed when I was least expecting it. It wasn't supposed to happen.

Not with...him.

HIM
I want to make one thing clear: I saw her first.

Not that it makes anything okay, but it's true. The moment she walked into my line of sight, I knew she was something special. I could see past the mask she wore, could see right down to her soul.

I recognized instantly that she needed a friend...and it just so happens I did too. So, I wormed my way in. Took her out on the town, forced her from her solitary existence. Together we grew brave, stepped outside the boxes we'd been placed in. Walked a thin line between "just friends" and something more.

I just didn't mean to fall in love with...her.

in review my thoughts

Spoilers ahead! My feelings about Here’s to Yesterday are so, so very messy. It shouldn’t be totally surprising though, because the book itself was messy. I mean, not the writing or anything. But the hero in love with his brother’s girlfriend. The heroine having very real feelings for the brother who isn’t her boyfriend. Confused yet? 😂

I’m all for some friends first love, so obviously I was all about Tucker and Maura. They were just so obviously meant to be together. The only problem was Tanner, Tucker’s brother and Maura’s boyfriend. Love triangles aren’t in my no-fly zone if they’re done right and I thought this one was decent. My biggest issue was that I have a problem with the demonizing of a previously good character to make the choice easier. That said, I guess we really don’t KNOW Tanner was a good guy before or that he treated Maura well. But it certainly seemed that way. The drastic change felt a little too convenient and the THING that happens maybe didn’t need to? But, it’s not my story to tell.

Aside from those small issues, I enjoyed this book quite a bit. I adored Maura and her journey was so relatable. Tucker was such a sweet guy. I shipped them early on, even if it wasn’t really right.

FAVORITE QUOTES

“Be you. Make you happy. Fuck everyone else. Be. Happy.”

I guess now is the time to hold on to one another. Now is the time to tell each other how we feel, because we don’t know if we’ll get to tomorrow. But sometimes, something so terrible happens that the yesterdays don’t matter, the tomorrows don’t exist, and the now is nothing but pain and heartache.

My life is full of regrets. I've screwed up more times than I can count, but I've spent the past several years atoning for my wrongdoings. I'm finally in a good place, ready to move on and step into the role waiting for me.

Then Haley Kamden comes crashing into my life, throwing me yet another curveball. Our relationship is one misadventure after the next. It's explosive in all the right ways, and so are we.

But I have baggage, and a lot of it.

I'm just hoping she can handle it...

In Review My Thoughts

Y’all, I have a new book boyfriend and his name is Gaige. Holy amazing. I loved that Here’s to Now was told solely from his perspective, even if it did make Haley a little harder for me to connect with. I still liked her — and loved THEM — but he was the star of the show here. But man, did they give me all the freaking feels with their slow burn, friends first romance.

Gaige’s past is seriously messy. It’s filled with heavy stuff that’s weighed him down for so long. Haley helps him realize he wants more — and she helps him break free of the guilt. While this book deals with some serious subjects, it does so in a way that keeps it from being too angsty. Gaige and Haley made me smile and swoon. There are sexy times and feels. Here’s to Now is my favorite book of the series and one I won’t forget anytime soon.

About Teagan Hunter

I’m a Missouri-raised gal, but currently live in North Carolina with my US Marine husband and 8-year-old Miniature Pinscher. I spend my days begging him for a cat, and I survive off coffee, pizza, and sarcasm. When I’m not writing, you can find me binge-watching various TV shows, especially Supernatural and One Tree Hill. I like cold weather, buy more paperbacks than I’ll ever read, and I never say no to brownies.
