Top 10 of 2017

For the last few years, I’ve been doing one of these “best of” the year series of posts as a way to tip my hat to the best of the best of the past year … and begin looking forward to the new year, as well. I love looking back and picking out my favorites and thought it would be fun to open it up for others to join. So … I’ll be doing that from now until the end of December. Interested in joining? Check out the sign-up post.

I read so many romances each year it’s always nearly impossible to narrow my list down to my ten favorite book boyfriends. It’s generally a multi-day process that often comes down to more or less flipping a coin. Haha. In reality, I’m only slightly exaggerating. It was tough, but I did it.

For a little extra added fun this year, I asked some of my favorite authors to join me in the Top 10 of 2017 celebration. Today Lia Riley is sharing an excerpt from her upcoming release, Virgin Territory, which releases on March 6, 2018. I just love her Hellions Angels series and I can’t wait to read the next installment!

The Wall of Winnipeg and Me Mariana Zapata

Goodreads | Amazon

Oh, Aiden. My heart. He isn’t the swooniest guy in the beginning of the book, but my gods did this man do things to my heart. I can’t recount all the small moments he made me totally fall in love with him for fear of ruining the book, but if you’ve read this one, you undoubtedly know exactly what I’m talking about.

The Duchess Deal Tessa Dare

Goodreads | Amazon

I do love my grumpy heroes and Ash is probably the best one I’ve met this entire year. He was sexy, protective and swoony and there was a vulnerability to him that you don’t often find in heroes in the HR genre.

Mister Romance Leisa Rayven

Goodreads | Amazon

Max is one of the swooniest guys I met in 2017 and he just might be the biggest surprise, if I’m being totally honest. I was afraid I would be a little skeeved out by him, but I wasn’t. Not even one little bit. The guy was just … unf. *all the heart eyes*

Dating-Ish Penny Reid

Goodreads | Amazon

If I’m being totally honest, I didn’t always agree with Matt’s actions, but I la-la-loved him regardless. I wish we’d have had some time in his head, but even without that he was utterly amazing.

Chasing Serenity Eden Butler

Goodreads | Amazon

I had a bit of a complicated relationship with Declan at times during Chasing Serenity, but I still really liked him. Once I got his POV in the follow-up novella, Behind the Pitch, I realized he was just as amazing as I thought he might be all along.

Keep Her Safe K.A. Tucker

Goodreads | Amazon

Noah is a recent addition to my favorite book boyfriends list but that doesn’t mean I love him any less. My word. I loved how protective he was of Gracie. He had me swooning all over the place, even as his story was breaking my heart at times.

Goodreads | Amazon

I just can’t leave Rey off my best book boyfriend list. Much like Aiden above, it was far from insta-love with Rey. He was grumpy and the exact opposite of a charmer. But holy crap did he grow more charming over time. There’s a really special scene near the end of the book that gave me EVERY FEEL POSSIBLE and still makes me swoon when I think about it. LOVED HIM.

When I Need You by Lorelei James

Goodreads | Amazon

Jensen-freaking-Lund. My god. I’m claiming him. You can’t have him. He’s a professional football player who loves Harry Potter. COME ON. That type of perfection just isn’t fair. LOVE.

Most of All You Mia Sheridan

Goodreads | Amazon

I’m not even sure how to put my feelings for Gabriel into words. He was truly unique and special — as was this book. I can’t say much more without risking giving away this story, but he’s gentle and nurturing and just flat out incredible.

The Other Brother Meghan Quinn

Goodreads | Amazon

I’ve loved so many of Meghan’s heroes, but I’m pretty sure Aaron is at the top of the list. I don’t think he could be any more perfect. He gave me so many feels. I just love it when a hero wears a heart on his sleeve. I basically just wanted to give him a huge hug and assure him everything would be alright and that he was loved and wanted.

Bonus Content

Lia Riley writes some of the swooniest men I’ve ever read, so I was thrilled when she said she’d share something with me and my readers today. An exclusive, never before read excerpt from one of my most anticipated books of 2017, Virgin Territory? YES, PLEASE. I’ve basically been waiting on Donnelly’s story since first meeting him in Mister Hockey.

Margot stood on tiptoe, both hands clutching the front of his t-shirt, and kissed him full on the mouth. Their ragged breaths mingled a moment. He tasted the brown sugar in her lipgloss before she broke free, pressing a quick second kiss to the tip of his nose.

“Go to bed,” she whispered, clearing her throat and stepping back. “And have a great game tomorrow.”

It took every last shred of Patch’s willpower not to close the space again, to consume her. “There’s something else you should know.”

“I’m not going to get a lick of sleep if you leave.”

“If I stay, you won’t sleep either,” she shot back, shrugging into her jacket.

“I’ll take those odds.”

She shook her head slowly as if with reluctance. “I’ve got to fold. “Goodnight.”

He took her hand and held it between his own. Her skin was cooler than his. He didn’t like that. He wanted to tuck her against him, warm her up. “Do me a favor and call when you get home. I want to know you got back safe, especially driving on that spare.”

“It’s been a long time since anyone has cared if I got home,” she said with a smile. “Careful, you might be turning into a gentleman.”

“Don’t get carried away. The things that I want to do to you are far from gentlemanly,” he said in a husky tone.

She rocked her head back and unleashed a frustrated moan. “Quit leading me into temptation. I’m trying to respect your virtue here.”

“My virtue can take a long jump off a short fucking bridge.”

“That might be. But . . .if we end up taking that jump. I want it to be special. That’s important. I want you to feel special.”

Blood rushed to his ears. “Funny, I feel the same way about you.”

“Then we’re in agreement and I’m leaving.” A wicked gleam entered her gaze. “But while you wait for my call, slip into something more comfortable.”

“Nothing at all.”

She blew a kiss, pirouetted, and was gone.

GAH! It sounds absolutely amazing! I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Check out Lia’s books on Goodreads and/or Amazon!

  1. I haven’t read any of these, but I love that excerpt. Thanks for sharing! I hope you don’t mind that I changed the topic slightly for my blog so I could include guys I loved who aren’t necessarily boyfriend material (or, at least, you weren’t thinking of them that way when you read the book).
