In Review My Thoughts

Sarah Morgan’s books are the perfect escape. With Holiday in the Hamptons that just happened to be a summer escape, as I read a good portion of the book sitting on the beach. It was a great second chance romance between a vet and a professional dog walker, with a fun in the sun setting in the Hamptons.

Fliss and Seth were interesting characters. Things ended badly between them the first time — when they were married — but a flurry of circumstances have them face-to-face again and things are going to be different this time. Even if Fliss tried to play the old twins switcheroo to fool Seth into thinking she is, in fact, her sister. (Spoiler alert: he didn’t buy it. He knows her better than that.) I really loved watching the two of them battle their chemistry and feelings that weren’t as far gone as they might have thought. There were laughs, swoons and feels a’plenty in this one.

FAVORITE QUOTES

“We’re not populating Noah’s Ark, Vanessa. We don’t all have to be in twos.”

“He’s handsome. And hot. And he’s also a vet. That immediately elevates him to hero status for a lot of my readers.”

“Maybe I don’t always play fair. Maybe I’m not the good boy you always thought I was.”

Happy moments become happy memories, and they last forever.

For Lena, the upcoming year is going to be epic—one of opportunities and chances.

Now Lena isn't looking forward to tomorrow. Not when friend time may never be the same. Not when college applications feel all but impossible. Not when Sebastian might never forgive her for what happened.

For what she let happen.

In Review My Thoughts

Over the years, I’ve grown accustomed to Jen ripping my heart out with her books. Looking back now, I’m not sure any of them have made me feel as many emotions as If There’s No Tomorrow did. This wasn’t the easiest read at times because of the serious subject matter, but I think it’s an important one. One more teenagers — and even adults — should read.

I’ll admit, this book did start off a little slow — at least once you got past the prologue. It was teenagers doing teenager things, which is fine because this is, after all, a YA book. I knew more was coming, even if I didn’t know what exactly, but when it happened I was still totally floored. It was in the aftermath of that one night that everything changed and the book took on a deeper meaning. My heart broke for Lena and everything she was dealing with. We’ve all heard about tragic stories like this on the news, but being inside the mind of the character dealing with it takes everything to a whole other level. I felt like I WAS Lena. I’m not even gonna lie, many a tear were shed during this book.

Bottom line is that I loved this one. It made me think… it made me cry… but it also made me laugh a few times. That’s just the beauty of Jen’s writing, I think. Even when she’s tackling a tough issue like in this book, it’s not heavy the entire time. That’s just part of what makes them so realistic to me. Life’s like that, after all. But, I digress. Read this book. Prepare yourself for feels, but read it.

FAVORITE QUOTES

“I knew I couldn’t go back and start a new beginning. I couldn’t rewrite the middle. All I could do was change tomorrow, as long as I had one.”

In Review My Thoughts

Hated is the third book in the Hearts of Stone series and it’s basically a frenemies to lovers book — with a hint of a second chance — that I was totally obsessed with. (As obsessed as I was with the first two books in this series, in fact.) But in this one, Austin and Frankie grew up best friends — and more — but fell out after Austin left town the first time. Now they’re back to being neighbors and all bets are off. What starts out with angry encounters and prank wars evolves into something more as these two are incapable of staying away from each other.  This book made me laugh nearly as much as it made me swoon and feel, so of course I loved it.

Christine’s done it again, with kickass strong characters, swoony romance, blistering sexy times and a load of feels. I can’t wait to see what’s next in the Hearts of Stone series. I’m also long overdue for a reread of the series… so I need to get on that soon. If you’re not reading the Hearts of Stone series, you’re missing out. I’d do something about that if I were you.

FAVORITE QUOTES

Austin Stone. The boy who was once my best friend. The boy whole stole my heart. The boy I loved. The boy who went to chase his dreams and left me here all alone. The boy I’d lied to. The boy who would never forgive me for what I’d done.

She tasted of sugar and summer and bad decisions. And I wanted it all.

There are a lot of stories hidden in the scratched and battered surface of a kitchen table. A table, more than any other piece of furniture in a house, has seen the full gamut when it comes to the ordinary and extraordinary events of a family and the people in their lives.

He kissed me with the fervor from four years of separation. Four years of longing. Four years of heartbreak.

When she leaned in and her body went flush and tight against me, it was like something snapped inside. Like gasoline had been poured on the ashes of our past only for it to roar back to life in a painful inferno of hate and love and hurt and betrayal.

“I can’t help but give myself to you and beg you to take me as I am, splintered and already broken. Let me be yours. Because I want you to be mine From the moment I saw you next door with your mud-splattered bike and skinned knees, snapping your gum, you belonged to me.”

Meet cute...

Run for the hills—temporarily. That's Colbie Albright's plan when she flees New York for San Francisco. Wrangling her crazy family by day and writing a bestselling YA fantasy series by night has taken its toll. In short, Colbie's so over it that she's under it. She's also under the waters of a historic San Francisco fountain within an hour of arrival. Fortunately, the guy who fishes Colbie out has her looking forward to Christmas among strangers. But she's pretty sure Spencer Baldwin won't be a stranger for long.

Make merry...

Spence's commitment to hiding from the Ghosts of Relationships Past means he doesn't have to worry about the powerful—okay, crazy hot chemistry—he's got with Colbie. Just because she can laugh at anything, especially herself... just because she's gorgeous and a great listener just because she gets Spence immediately doesn't mean he won't be able to let Colbie go. Does it?

and hope for a miracle.

Now the clock's ticking for Colbie and Spence: Two weeks to cut loose. Two weeks to fall hard. Two weeks to figure out how to make this Christmas last a lifetime.

In Review My Thoughts

It’s not often I read a holiday romance BEFORE the weather at least turns cold, but I didn’t want to wait any longer for this one, so I read Chasing Christmas Eve back at the end of September. I regret nothing. It was wonderful. So much humor and heart. But really, does ANYONE write holiday romance like Jill Shalvis? I think not.

Spence and Colbie delivered all the swoons (and feels) in this book. From their meet-cute to their flirty banter and sizzling chemistry to the relationship they started knowing Colbie was only there for a short period of time, I was hooked. The Heartbreaker Bay series is Jill Shalvis at her swooniest, er finest, and I couldn’t love it more if I tried. The setting, the secondary characters — furry and otherwise — and the relationship was just the best.

I have every intention of re-reading this one now that my Christmas tree is up and I’m getting in the holiday spirit. If it’s not already on your holiday reading list, it should be.

FAVORITE QUOTES

“Hey, you know I run on caffeine, sarcasm, and inappropriate thoughts at all times.”

“You gotta catch the moments, the precious, good, amazing moments of life. You gotta go after them and hold on for all you’re worth. And when someone comes along who loves you for you—and not because of what you do or because you’re lonely, but because they love you—you hold on, Colbie. You hold on like you’ve never held on before. Not because you need it for your life, but because it complements your life.”

A twist of fate . . .

Devon Ravenel, London's most wickedly charming rake, has just inherited an earldom. But his powerful new rank in society comes with unwanted responsibilities . . . and more than a few surprises. His estate is saddled with debt, and the late earl's three innocent sisters are still occupying the house . . . along with Kathleen, Lady Trenear, a beautiful young widow whose sharp wit and determination are a match for Devon's own.

A clash of wills . . .

Kathleen knows better than to trust a ruthless scoundrel like Devon. But the fiery attraction between them is impossible to deny—and from the first moment Devon holds her in his arms, he vows to do whatever it takes to possess her. As Kathleen finds herself yielding to his skillfully erotic seduction, only one question remains:

Can she keep from surrendering her heart to the most dangerous man she's ever known?

In Review My Thoughts

Whyyyyyy did I wait so long to read Cold-Hearted Rake? Anyone? (And why have I still not read the second two books in the series? Sometimes I’m the worst.) I don’t make time to read a lot of historical romance these days, but every time I read one, I wish I did. Lisa Kleypas is my HR queen.

I wasn’t 100% sure I would get onboard with Devon, but after Sebastian became one of my favorite heroes EVER in Devil in Winter, I should’ve known better than to doubt Lisa. I mean, sure, Devon put me through some ups and downs, but when it was all said and done, I was hopelessly in love with him. Kathleen was pretty special herself. Together they delivered an amazing slow burn romance with many swoons and feels along the way. There are so many interesting secondary characters in this book, I can’t wait until I can read their stories.

I can’t say enough about Lisa’s historical romances and how much I always end up loving her characters — even the ones I’m convinced I’m going to dislike. She has a special way of redeeming even the most challenging character and I am here for it every single time.

FAVORITE QUOTES

Ravenels had always been too hot-blooded and impulsive. They yielded to every temptation, indulged in every sin, and scorned every virtue, with the result that they tended to die faster than they could reproduce.

“Yes, I have a conscience. It’s been abused and neglected for years, but even so, it occasionally manages to be a nuisance.”

Marriage had taught her that men forgot themselves when aroused. They lost control and turned into beasts.

“The last moment, I thought… I would die wanting you.”
