Music . . . the heart’s greatest librarian.
The average song is three and a half minutes long; those three and a half minutes could lead to a slow blink, a glimpse of the past, or catapult the soul into heart-shattering nostalgia.
At the height of my career, I had the life I wanted, the life I’d always envisioned. I’d found my tempo, my rhythm. Then I received a phone call that left me off key.
You see, my favorite songs had a way of playing simultaneously. I was in love with one man’s beats and another’s lyrics. But when it came to the soundtrack of a life, how could anyone choose a favorite song? So, to erase any doubt, I ditched my first-class ticket and decided to take a drive, fixed on the rearview.
And the long road home to the man who was waiting for me.
This book, you guys. It was beautiful in a way I can’t even begin to explain. (Which I’m going to need to work on so I can post my review tomorrow.) It was emotional and raw and completely perfect. Kate broke me and put me back together and then made me question everything again. Gorgeous. Heart-wrenching. Amazing. One of my favorites of the year, no doubt. Love.
I loved Adam Doleac’s Whiskey’s Fine the first time I heard it, but I’ve basically been obsessed with it since I saw him (and Ashley McBryde and High Valley) in DC last week. What a great show. If the Highway Finds tour is stopping near you, GO.
Every word that you say
Sounds like you missed me
Every move that you make
Says you wanna kiss me
And you whisper baby
Can I hang here for awhile?
Well come on in, the whiskey’s fine
It ain’t even close, to close in time
So if you wanna taste that Tennessee
Well pour another drink with me
And put your lips on mine
Come on in, the whiskey’s fine
The Awkward Yeti is one of my favorite cartoons at the moment. This one definitely spoke to me. What’s your anything else? Mine is, naturally, books.
