The first time I lay eyes on Callan Walker, I know he’ll be trouble. With his smug grin, hot Aussie accent and thousand dollar shoes, he’s just the kind of rich guy who always gets what he wants.
And he wants two things: a night of sin, and my cooperation as he outmaneuvers his powerful mother to take control of his uncle’s estate.
I can’t afford either one. I’m the only thing standing between my little sister and the foster care system. He may have money and charm on his side, but I have something even more powerful -- pure desperation. This temp job at his mother’s company can become a full time job for me. It has to.
But when Callan’s eyes rake over my body, sometimes I forget my obligations. His piercing gaze finds the fun, optimistic girl I used to be and not the tired person I’ve become.
And it works--if only for a moment. Our night together was a mistake. I can't afford to get sucked into his high-powered family’s treachery. But the closer I get to Callan, the more layers I find beneath those expensive clothes. Though I can’t forget this is temporary. He’s temporary. I have too much to lose.
Too bad my foolish heart didn’t get the memo...
I received a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration.
This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I’m always excited to learn Sarina Bowen is writing a new book. With Temporary I was doubly excited because she co-wrote with Sarah Mayberry, which meant I had a chance to discover another new-to-me author. It was a delightful book — sweet and sexy with a few laughs along the way.
Grace and Callan were wonderful characters. I connected with Grace right from the very start. I admired her tenacity and strength and the way she was willing to do whatever she could for her (rather unappreciative at times) little sister. Callan made me a little unsure in the beginning — I’m not always a huge fan of the rich playboy thing — but it didn’t take all that long for him to win me over. His reaction to his uncle’s death and his memories of their relationship showed me there was so much more to him than what he showed the world. I wouldn’t necessarily call things between them “forbidden,” but definitely “frowned upon” as Grace was working for Callan’s family, trying to secure his uncle’s estate. Of course, things were even more complicated because he was more or less the black sheep of the family. (For what it’s worth, I believe Callan’s mother was a truly horrible person.) You know what wasn’t horrible? The connection and chemistry between Grace and Callan. I loved them together. They were so easy to root for and I loved how the thing between them helped both of them grow.
I adored the characters and the romance in Temporary. I also really liked the secondary storylines of Callan’s uncle and Grace’s sister. All in all, Temporary was a fun story that wasn’t without a few feels along the way. I don’t know if this is the start of a series or a standalone, but I’m here for it if it spins into a new series. The duo of Sarina and Sarah totally worked for me so I hope it isn’t the last we get of it.
I’d charm her out of her suit and follow the blushes across her skin. I’d unlock the hedonist in her soul and go along for the ride.
You are incredible. Your strength, your determination, stagger me. The way you look at the world, the way you handle yourself, the way you love and care for your sister. I admire you more than I can say.
“I’m wild about you. I adore you. I worship your mind. I lust after your body. I want to make you happy as often as possible.”
Does Temporary sound like something you’d enjoy?
