When girl meets Duke, their marriage breaks all the rules…
Since his return from war, the Duke of Ashbury’s to-do list has been short and anything but sweet: brooding, glowering, menacing London ne’er-do-wells by night. Now there’s a new item on the list. He needs an heir—which means he needs a wife. When Emma Gladstone, a vicar’s daughter turned seamstress, appears in his library wearing a wedding gown, he decides on the spot that she’ll do.
His terms are simple:
- They will be husband and wife by night only.
- No lights, no kissing.
- No questions about his battle scars.
- Last, and most importantly… Once she’s pregnant with his heir, they need never share a bed again.
But Emma is no pushover. She has a few rules of her own:
- They will have dinner together every evening.
- With conversation.
- And unlimited teasing.
- Last, and most importantly… Once she’s seen the man beneath the scars, he can’t stop her from falling in love…
I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
It’s been awhile since I read a historical romance, but Tessa Dare made me want to read ALL THE HR with The Duchess Deal. I seriously loved every little thing about this book. The moment I finished, I wanted to flip back to the beginning and read it all over again. I even ended up buying the Audible version, so there’s a good chance I’ll be rereading this one VERY soon.
The Duchess Deal was a little bit Beauty & the Beast and a little bit Batman with a whole lot of HR swoons. Y’all know I love my grumpy heroes and Ash is definitely among my all-time favorites. He was grumpy, yes, but he was also sexy as hell (yes, scars included), protective and swoony. There was a vulnerability to him that did things to my heart. Emma was a wonderful, smart and sassy heroine. I loved her. I adored him. They were absolutely magical together.
I’m not even gonna lie, I’m having a hard time putting my thoughts about The Duchess Deal into words. I can’t pick out things I loved because, honestly, I loved ALL of it. I wouldn’t change a single thing about it. The romance gave me all the swoony feels and I had a huge cheesy grin on my face for about 95% of this book. It was a lovely read to get lost in for a few hours. I thought it was funny, sweet and sexy. SUPER sexy. I loved watching Ash grow and open up and I cheered Emma on as she pushed for what she wanted. These two. *insert all the heart eyes emoticons here*
Tessa Dare’s Romancing the Duke was the first HR I’d ever read. Her books will always hold a special place in my heart because I feel like she made me fall in love with a genre I truly had little to no interest in. I don’t like playing favorites, but I will say The Duchess Deal is definitely on my “most favoritest” list. It’s one of those books I will turn to when I’m in a slump or just need a heartwarming, swoony, sexy read. I loved it in ways I can’t even fully explain. I’d give it more than five stars if that was an option.
“Your days will be yours to do whatever you wish. Your nights, however, will belong to me.”
“For a bride of convenience, you are proving to be a great deal of trouble.”
Everything was wrong. Everything was right. Everything was possible.
“Darling is in the eye of the beholder. If I choose to make a darling of you, there is nothing you can do about it.”
“I am wildly attracted to you. Physically attracted to you. I have been from the first. And yes, I’ve done a great deal of staring. I want you with a keen, carnal passion. I won’t pretend otherwise, and I’m not going to apologize for it. Not anymore.”
“I am ordering the carriage, and we are going home. To bed. And you are going to die no fewer than ten ‘little deaths’ before I’m through with you.”
Do you love Tessa Dare’s books as much as I do?
Which is your favorite?
