The Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

Y’all know I enjoy a good book tag, so when I saw this one on As Told by Tina, I knew I had to do it. (Even if we’re a bit past the middle of the year right now…) The Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag was created by Chami and Ely.

Best book you’ve read so far in 2017

The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata The Hating Game by Sally Thorne Dating-Ish (Knitting in the City #6) by Penny Reid Mister Romance (Masters of Love #1) by Leisa Rayven The Opposite of You (Opposites Attract #1) by Rachel Higginson When I Need You (Need You #4) by Lorelei James

I couldn’t pick one. #sorrynotsorry

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2017

American Prince (American Queen Trilogy #2) by Sierra Simone

This trilogy just might kill me. The first book was amazing and made me fall in love with all the characters. The second book just about ripped my heart out AND I swear I hated all of them at one point or another. But, I can’t begin to tell you just how much I need the third book in my life. Like, now.

New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

Damaged Like Us (Like Us #1) by Krista & Becca Ritchie

I have no real excuse for not having read Damaged Like Us yet. I love Krista & Becca’s books and I’m really excited to get back into their world. I guess, if anything, I’ve not started it yet because I’ve not been in the mood for a really angsty read and I suspect that’s exactly what I’ll find.

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

Roomies by Christina Lauren

I love Christina Lauren. I love NYC. I love Irish men. I love fake relationship books. Sooooooo this one has my name all over it.

Biggest disappointment

Too Wild to Tame (Romancing the Clarksons #2) by Tessa Bailey

I’ll be honest, it hurts to even put this one out there. I generally love Tessa’s books. This is the first one that’s been under 4 stars. It was still good, but expect great from her. For whatever reason, I just had a tough time connecting to the characters in this one.

Biggest surprise

Rock Star (Bad Boy Homecoming #5) by Stacey Kennedy

I *LOVED* this novella. I’m not a huge rock star romance fan, so I honestly wasn’t expecting much from this one. (I don’t mean that as harsh as it sounds.) But oh my god. This novella. It ended up being my favorite of the entire Bad Boy Homecoming series! I fell hard and fast for the characters and had ALL THE FEELS while reading. So darn good.

Favorite new author (debut or new-to-you)

The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata Kulti by Mariana Zapata Lingus by Mariana Zapata Dear Aaron by Mariana Zapata

Ok, I have discovered some fantastic new authors this year (Sally Thorne, Rachel Higginson and Lorelei James to name a few) but Mariana Zapata takes the top spot. I can’t even begin to tell you just how much I love her books. What I will say is that I’ve read The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, Kulti and Lingus THREE TIMES EACH since January. That should tell you something. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Oh, and as soon as Dear Aaron is available on audio, I’ll be listening to it again (and again… and again).

Newest fictional crush

When I Need You (Need You #4) by Lorelei James

Jensen is all mine, yo. A tough football player who also loves Harry Potter? Could any hero, ever, be more appropriate for me?

Newest favorite character

The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata Kulti by Mariana Zapata

This is another tough one. I’m going with a tie between Van in The Wall of Winnipeg and Me and Sal in Kulti. (Let’s be honest, I could pretty much pick a Mariana Zapata book for every category in this tag.)

Book that made you cry

Dear Life by Meghan Quinn

I’m an emotional reader, so it’s not unexpected for me to get teary-eyed during a book. I haven’t read a lot of really weepy type books this year, but this one got me.

Book that made you happy

Anything You Can Do by R.S. Grey

Rachel is one of my go-to authors for when I just want a flat-out fun read. She never disappoints.

Favorite book to film adaptation you saw this year

Is this a stretch? I don’t even care, to be honest. I never read the book, but I loved the movie. (Also, I don’t watch *that many* movies and the types of books I read aren’t often made into movies, soooooo.) I can’t wait for Passionflix to change that.

Favorite review you’ve written this year

Is this a thing? I don’t really pick favorite reviews…

Most beautiful book you’ve bought (or received) so far this year

Bad Romance by Heather Demetrios

Full disclosure: I’ve not read this one yet. I’m judging it simply on its cover, which is gorgeous.

Books you need to read by the end of the year

Cold-Hearted Rake (The Ravenels #1) by Lisa Kleypas Marrying Winterborne (The Ravenels #2) by Lisa Kleypas Devil in Spring (The Ravenels #3) by Lisa Kleypas

I HAVE TO make time for a good Lisa Kleypas binge before the end of the year. It’s a must. I’m absolutely ashamed I’ve not yet read these books.

  1. We had some similar answers. I also listed Beauty and the Beast. I am really excited for passionflix, too! And I need to read the Lisa Kleypas books too. I have read Marrying Winterborne but that’s it. Shame on me.
