PR agent Annika Lund can spin any disaster into a win. But revamping the reputation of a notorious Swedish hockey player will take every trick in her arsenal, especially when his agent insists that convincing everyone he’s no longer a playboy is top priority. And that it requires a sham relationship—with Annika playing the part of loving girlfriend.
On fire in the rink and in the bedroom, Axl Hammerquist couldn’t care less about being anyone’s golden boy. So when his agent forces him to play nice with a new publicist, he takes satisfaction in being as much of a pain as possible. But the more time he spends getting to know Annika, the more Axl starts to think that being Mr. Nice Guy might be worth it if it gets him the girl...
I loved this book so much more than I expected to! After seeing Axl’s antics in the second book, I’d pegged him as a manwhore and I’m not a big fan of that storyline any longer. Still, I tried to go into this one with an open mind because I hoped he would surprise me. And you know what? He totally did. I mean, sure, he had a past. It wasn’t always pretty, but it’s also a good reminder not to believe *everything* you read. When it came down to it, he was totally swoony. He was also all in for Annika and I loved that.
Annika was a wonderful, smart and strong heroine. I do love a “take no shit” heroine and she was exactly that. And, believe me, Axl gave her his fair share of shit. These two gave great banter and they often had me literally laughing out loud. They also had crazy hot chemistry, combined with a great slow burn that made for some super sexy scenes when they finally gave in to their feelings.
I’ve probably said a time or ten how much I am enjoying Lorelei James’s Need You series. I love the characters and the writing and, honestly, everything about them. With each new book, I love not only meeting the new couple, but seeing my old favorites again. These books are totally bingeable and, maybe more importantly, ones I know I’ll want to reread many times. I’ll be diving into the fourth book, When I Need You, very soon and I can’t wait!
“Have you ever experienced body-pounding, mind-scrambling, scream-inducing passion, Annika?”
“I like you. The more time I spend with you, the more things I learn to like about you. I don’t want to screw this up.”
“Show you what?”
“How you got the nickname ‘The Hammer.’ It’s a sturdy bed. I’m a sturdy girl. Give me Hammer-time.”
That was when I knew I was gone for this woman. Utterly, completely, no-going-back, in-love-with-her-forever kind of gone.
