Choose the one guy you can’t have...
As captain of a San Francisco Bay tour boat, Pru can handle rough seas—the hard part is life on dry land. Pru loves her new apartment and her neighbors; problem is, she’s in danger of stumbling into love with Mr. Right for Anybody But Her.
Fall for him—hard...
Pub owner Finn O’Riley is six-foot-plus of hard-working hottie who always makes time for his friends. When Pru becomes one of them, she discovers how amazing it feels to be on the receiving end of that deep green gaze. But when a freak accident involving darts (don’t ask) leads to shirtless first aid, things rush way past the friend zone. Fast.
And then tell him the truth.
Pru only wants Finn to be happy; it’s what she wishes for at the historic fountain that’s supposed to grant her heart’s desire. But wanting him for herself is a different story—because Pru’s been keeping a secret that could change everything...
I received a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration.
This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I’ve now read Sweet Little Things twice since late last year — once as an eBook and the second time as an audiobook. I loved it both times and in both ways. Pru and Finn were perfection no matter the format. I think I have a new favorite Jill Shalvis book, and believe me when I say the competition was steep.
Pru is a pretty badass heroine. She’s a ship captain. She’s selfless. She’s sassy and smart. I began crushing on her right from the first few pages. Finn was sexy and swoony and totally delicious. I enjoyed the beginning of their story, when they were just becoming friends, as much as I did once things started progressing between them. They were so well suited for each other. They had oodles of chemistry and some great sexual tension before it finally broke.
Of course, nothing can ever be totally easy and straightforward in romance. (Would we read it if it was?) The secret Pru is keeping from Finn had the ability to shatter everything they were working towards. I couldn’t help but mentally scream at her as time went on and she continued to keep it from him. I’m not going to get all spoilery here, so all I will say is that I thought Finn’s reaction was appropriate, yet it still made me sad. The way it all came back around and wrapped up, however, made me happy.
I just love Jill Shalvis’s books. She’s my go-to for sweet, swoony and sexy romance. She gives me all the feels and I love it. Bonus? There’s generally fun animal cameos, too. (Thor!) Her Heartbreaker Bay series just might be my favorite series so far.
Pru Harris’s mom had taught her to make wishes on pink cars, falling leaves and brass lamps, because wishing on something as ordinary as stars or wishing wells was a sign of no imagination.
Apparently it’d been too long since her last social orgasm and while she handled her own business just fine, her business was clearly getting bored with herself.
“Thanks for giving me a taste of you,” he murmured against her mouth. “I already want another.”
“Life doesn’t follow rules or expectations. It’s messy and unpredictable. And it turns out love is a lot like life—it doesn’t follow rules or expectations either.”
