Four years ago, Cate’s entire life changed when she discovered she was the daughter of a supersoldier. But Jim Morgan’s overprotectiveness has pushed her away. These days, she’s working as a freelance photographer and living the dangerous life Jim never wanted for her.

When Cate snaps a photo linking a corrupt South American politician with the leader of a notorious drug cartel, her mercenary father leads a team to rescue her—only to get shot and critically wounded in the process.

As Morgan’s operatives rally together on a revenge mission, they’re faced with new alliances and old heartaches. Cate is forced to work with David “Ash” Ashton, the man who broke her heart two years ago, while Liam Macgregor and Sullivan Port resurface after years apart to finally try to deal with everything they’d left unsaid.

Soon it’s all-out war between the cartel and the mercenaries—with two couples caught in the middle of the blood feud. Love and redemption are within their reach...but first they have to make it home alive.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration.
This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

To say I had high hopes for Midnight Target would be a ridiculous understatement. THIS is the book I’ve been waiting on since I really started to pick up on the spark between Liam and Sully. After being teased book after book, after having them apart, I wanted, no NEEDED, the payoff in this book. And it needed to be damn good. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. While Liam and Sully were the pairing I was really waiting on, I have to say that I was so happy to see Ash and Cate get a chance at love, too. I thought (and hoped) there might be something brewing between them in previous books, so I was thrilled to finally watch that come to fruition.

I’m not going to get down into the plot and details on this one. It’s truly best if you just experience it on your own and I don’t want to ruin a thing for you. What I wills ay is that this book was HOT. But, it was more than that. The suspense had me more or less on the edge of my seat, literally biting my nails (a habit I quit more than a decade ago). I never once assumed that everyone would make it out the other side in one piece… and I actually might have intentionally spoiled the book for myself because I wasn’t sure my heart could take all the action, not knowing if everyone would survive. There were also a fair few feels mixed in the suspense and sex this time. Total package, y’all.

I’ll admit, at first I was a little sad to learn that Liam and Sully wouldn’t get their OWN book because I had waited so long for the climax (pun intended, haha) of their story. My sadness was quickly assuaged as I realized how perfect the pairing of Cate and Ash was. The two couple’s stories complemented each other perfectly. It was kinda like a bonus — getting two amazing love stories in one book. I can say I honestly think Killer Instincts series fans will love this book. Liam and Sully, Cate and Ash make for the perfect wrap up to a series I’ve been obsessed with since I started bingeing it about a year ago. And the epilogue? Total fucking perfection. Just like the rest of this book.

“Oh, wipe that smug look off your face. Of course you’re my kid, asshole. You think I’d invest all my time on wisdom on just anybody?”

Sullivan Port personified sex. He oozed it. And he was really fuckin’ good at it.

“I’m not gentle or sweet when it comes to sex. I have a filthy mouth. I can be rough.”

Was it wrong to want more than that? To want passion? She wanted someone who stormed the castle, who was so overcome with need that he’d tear down the walls to get to her.

“Life is short, mate. We have no idea what’s going to happen tomorrow. Might as well take advantage of tonight.”

“When I look at you like you’re my world? It’s because it’s true. You’ve always been in my head, no matter how hard I tried to drive you out of it.”
