Sydney Walker’s new job is perfect. As the live-in nanny to the most famous quarterback in the NFL and his beautiful wife, she couldn’t have it any better. Their kids are adorable. Her bosses are more than generous. Plus, there are hot football players at the house all the time. Life can’t get much better than this.
Until her life turns into an absolute nightmare. The media is abuzz with rumors that she and her boss Drew Callahan are having a torrid affair. Everyone knows the truth—except the public. So Drew’s wife Fable comes up with the perfect idea.
She creates a fake relationship between Sydney and one of the rookie players on Drew’s team. Wade Knox is forever indebted to Drew and Fable and readily agrees to the set up. Pretending to be in a romantic relationship with the hot nanny for a week—how hard can it be?
Crazy how it only takes one week for two people to fall head over heels in love…
(This mash-up new adult romance features characters from both the One Week Girlfriend series and The Rules series.)
I received a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration.
This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I first discovered Monica Murphy’s books thanks to One Week Girlfriend and Drew and Fable remain some of my favorite of her characters still today, so when I found out we would revisit them in (what I assume is) the final book in this series, I was over the moon. I couldn’t wait to see how life was treating them and if they were the same characters I loved way back when. (Spoiler alert: they’re still amazing.) And, of course, I was looking forward to Wade and Sydney’s story because I do rather enjoy the fake relationship trope.
I thought this was a super quick, uncomplicated, sweet and sexy read. It was pretty much exactly what I wanted from this latest addition to The Rules series. I loved that what was going on with Wade and Sydney so closely mirrored parts of Drew and Fable’s beginning. Of course, you can pretty much count on a “fake relationship” not staying fake for long, so there weren’t really any big surprises here. And that was totally ok. I thought both Wade and Sydney were interesting characters and they had fantastic chemistry. They were a great match. (Which I’m pretty sure Fable already figured out before coming up with the plan to deflect the paparazzi. She’s smart like that.)
I think fans of both the Drew + Fable series and The Rules series will enjoy this one. Drew and Fable aren’t the only two favorites to come back for Safe Bet. (*cough* Owen and Chelsea *cough*) I really enjoyed how worlds collided here. This one was definitely a fun read.
“What we’re about to do… changes everything. This was supposed to be fake. What we’re doing. But it doesn’t feel fake right now.”
I’m getting way too into this fake relationship. Getting way too into this real girl.
