My rating:
From New York Times bestselling author Kristen Proby comes the third romance in the Love Under the Big Sky series, featuring a veteran struggling with PTSD and the one woman who can help him recover—and learn to love again.
Jillian thought she was a city girl through and through; the fast cars, high fashion, and glamour—she loves it all. But when her ex tells her he’s having a baby with his new wife (after Jillian struggled for years to get pregnant), she hightails it back to Montana to cry on the shoulder of her best friend, Cara.
But in truth, Jillian would rather be comforted by someone else…specifically Zach, Cara’s brother-in-law. Zach is a veteran of the Iraq War who came back to the family ranch to raise his preteen son after the boy’s mother took off. He’s struggling to re-establish a relationship with his son, and warding off the demons of PTSD, which still haunt him. The last thing he needs is bold, brassy Jillian…but why can’t he keep his hands off her?
As much as I wasn’t looking forward to the Love Under the Big Sky series coming to an end, I was excited to get Jillian’s story. I adored her when we met her earlier in the series and, after learning some of her backstory, I couldn’t wait for her to get a much-deserved happily ever after. Plus, you know, Zach kinda captured my attention earlier in the series, too. He was a tough nut to crack, but I thought this match just might be the thing. I wasn’t wrong… but there were some moments that made me wonder if I was.
Jillian and Zach both had painful and complicated pasts, but I desperately wanted to see them overcome them and find a happy future together. They were perfectly matched, IMHO. She was sassy and bold and he needed someone like her in his life. Their chemistry was off the charts hot. She fit in perfectly with his little family. His son Seth absolutely loved her and the feeling was mutual. I loved watching them move beyond the past and embrace the future together. Of course, their road wasn’t without bumps. And, quite frankly, I half wanted to strangle Zach at least one time during this book. I get irritated with characters in books frequently, but I rarely get flat out pissed off. I did this time. It took awhile for Zach to get back in my good graces, but he did eventually. He might’ve even hit darn swoony territory before it was over with. 🙂
I thought Falling for Jillian was a great conclusion to the Love Under the Big Sky series. It’s always satisfying to see a character you were introduced to early on get the story (and HEA) you wanted for them. Basically, I’ve come to realize that I just love Kristen’s books and need to read more of them. I need to work on that.
