One night with a stranger…
Security expert Mark Matthews has loved, and lost, and has no intention of ever loving again—especially not a woman who thrives on her life being in danger. Now, hot, meaningless sex with strangers he had no intention of ever seeing again? That’s a whole other story. And it’s all life as a single father allows him to enjoy. But when he meets a woman who refuses to tell him her real name, the game is on, because she’s everything he swore to stay away from. Daisy O’Rourke has bad idea written all over her, but he’s in too deep to walk away now…
I received a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration.
This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I’ve been a big fan of Diane’s Shillings Agency Series since I picked up the very first book. They’re quick and sexy reads that also sometimes pack an emotional punch. Diane’s Brazens are some of my go to books when I need to crawl out of a slump or reset after a wicked book hangover.
I adored both Mark and Daisy and desperately wanted them to see they were actually more perfect for each other than they could even imagine. I know they’d both lost someone important to them in the past and that their careers made them seem incompatible – or at least destined for possibly the same heartache all over again – but I hoped they could get past that. Their chemistry was crazy right from their first meeting. They could play it off like it was just a hookup as much as they wanted, but every action screamed differently. They clicked in a way that’s rare and I needed them to embrace their fears and make the leap together.
His Best Mistake was such a great read. I was totally sucked in from the first pages and I read it in one sitting, without even thinking about stopping. It wasn’t overly emotional, but it did tug at the heartstrings a few times along the way. It was also SUPER hot and sexy and, well, you know that’s how I enjoy my romance. I loved getting to see a glimpse of some of my favorite couples from the previous Shillings Agency books and it was wonderful that we saw some pretty special moments play out with them. I don’t know what Diane’s plans are for this series, but as long as she writes more books, I’ll continue to read them!
“You keep looking at me like you want to kiss me, but you’re not, so I’m taking the initiative, and I’m inviting you to just go ahead and do it already. To kiss me. To make me forget. And maybe I’ll make you forget, too. I know you miss your wife, and I miss William, and…yeah. So I want us to be each other’s person tonight.”
“Look, I’m not going to play games here, Scar. I’m not going to be able to go slow or easy, or make love to you sweetly. I’m going to fuck you. Can you handle that, or do I need to take a step back?”
“We don’t make sense on paper. Mark and Daisy make no sense at all.” He reached out and cupped her face through the crack of the door. “But Scarlett and Chris do.”
She stared at him, leaning into his hand. “So you’re proposing…?”
“One more night for Scarlett and Chris. One more perfect night together, before the sun comes up.”
