You might’ve noticed I’ve not been around all that much lately. I’ve still posted some reviews, memes and promotions, but some of my other features have fallen away. (Like my August monthly wrap up and two week’s worth of weekly round ups, for example.) August and September (so far) have been a little bit crazy and I’ve become that inconsistent blogger I never wanted to be. I guess that’s what happens when you start putting less pressure on yourself to “do all the things!” Regardless, I wanted to take a few minutes and let you know what I’ve been up to.
I’m in the middle of launching what is probably the biggest “thing” I’ll ever do at my current job. I don’t want to bore y’all, so I’m not going to get into details… no one really cares about corporate communication systems and strategy unless it directly affects you, right? But it’s an enormous (and exciting) undertaking but it’s wearing me out. Due in part to this project, I’ve even had to do some traveling. You might know I went to Milwaukee. Well, I was going to do that trip regardless, but the scope of it changed a bit. Instead of sitting in professional development sessions, I was essentially talking to everyone I could (with the help of my department head) about this new tool and encouraging them to sign up. The executive VP of my organization was so happy with what we did for that conference that she asked me to go to Nashville and do something similar during another staff conference. Of course, all of this was right on the heels of my vacation/staycation and the long Labor Day weekend. This is the first full week I’ve worked in the office since … the beginning of August. It’s done a number on me, too.
Labor Day weekend was pretty much perfect – save for that whole sinus infection/strep throat thing. That took a lot out of me, as you might imagine. I spent quite a bit of time sleeping, but also found some time to Pokémon hunt, read and lay by the pool. (Not in that order.)
I left for Nashville the Tuesday after Labor Day. It was a quick trip – down Tuesday afternoon, back late Thursday night – but I packed a lot into my time there. Not only did I do the work conference stuff I was there for (and I even got up on a stage in public!) but I found some time for some fun, too. My hotel was right off Broadway, so I spent some time walking Broadway and just soaking it all in. I went to the Wildhorse Saloon for a work event. I was supposed to go out the second night I was there, but I ended up getting sick from my antibiotic. (Womp womp.) Before my flight on Thursday, I met up with one of my dear author friends, Caisey Quinn, and had lunch. We had such a great time! I also bought myself a ticket for Nashville’s trolley tour so I could soak in as much of the city as possible before I left. Not only did I learn a lot about Nashville and its history, but I opened up my Pokémon Go app and hatched some eggs. (And caught one of the last six – at the time – Pokémon I have left.) We’ll be back in Nashville early in 2018 and it can’t come soon enough. I really liked that city.
I took a three-day weekend last week and enjoyed it. I got pampered (aka got my hair did), watched a lot of football and binged Quantico and Nashville. I also did some reading… naturally. I also attempted to put my life back together after about a month of doing what basically felt like living out of suitcases. I changed over all the soaps and scents in my apartment from fruity summer to warm/bakery fall and now I’m just waiting for the weather to catch up. 🙂
As you can see, I’ve been keeping pretty busy. The blog is one of the first things to go when I start to feel too busy or overwhelmed, which I guess is how it should go. If I’m honest, I’ve had TIME to blog… I just haven’t been in the mood to do a lot of it. I’m still enjoying reading (obviously) and reviewing, but I’ve been thinking about the future of my blog. No, don’t worry… I’m not giving it up! I’m just trying to decide what types of posts I want to keep doing. I’m about 99% sure at this point that I’m going to cut the Weekly Round Up posts. I’ve been doing them pretty consistently since I began blogging, but I’m just not feeling them. I’d rather highlight my latest additions on Instagram or in another way. The posts take quite a bit of time to put together and I’d honestly rather spend that time doing something else.
I’m not sure what other changes will come, but I figure this is a good start. (And, who knows, I might decide I miss these posts after a couple weeks of not doing them!) Even if I’m not posting daily, I’d like to get back to being a little more consistent and, hopefully not feeling as tapped out creatively.
So, that’s where I’ve been… and where I am mentally lately. I promise I’ll be a better bloggy friend and spend some time visiting y’all this weekend. And I don’t have any more trips planned for about a month, so maybe I can get back into the swing of things in all the ways. (See, optimism!)
What’d I miss while I was “gone”?
