WWW Wednesday [21]

Posted June 29, 2016 by Kim in WWW Wednesday / 6 Comments

It’s that time again… time for the W… W… W… Wednesday meme! The original meme was good, but I’m a moody reader who doesn’t stick to a schedule, so I had a tough time with the “reading next” question each week. Problem solved! My girl Jessica from Lovin’ los libros was having the same problem, so she decided to tweak the meme to better fit her needs. (And mine, in the process!) She changed the final question to ask “What are you waiting to read?” so it gives a chance to talk about an upcoming release you’re excited about OR a book from your TBR!

Are you ready to hear about what I’m currently reading, what I recently finished reading and what I’m waiting to read?

WWW Wednesday [21]Overruled by Emma Chase
Series: The Legal Briefs #1
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publication date: April 28, 2015
Publisher: Gallery Books
Add it: Goodreads
Buy it: Amazon

As a DC defense attorney, Stanton Shaw keeps his head cool, his questions sharp, and his arguments irrefutable. They don’t call him the Jury Charmer for nothing – with his southern drawl, disarming smile and captivating green eyes – he’s a hard man to say no to. Men want to be him and women want to be thoroughly cross examined by him.

Stanton’s a man with a plan. And for a while, life was going according to that plan.

Until the day he receives an invitation to the wedding of his high school sweetheart and mother of his beloved ten-year old daughter. Jenny is getting married — to someone who isn’t him.

That's definitely not part of the plan.

Sofia Santos is a city raised, no-nonsense litigator who plans to become the most revered criminal defense attorney in the country. She doesn’t have time for relationships or distractions.

But when Stanton, her "friend with mind-blowing benefits" begs for help, she finds herself out of her element, out of her depth, and obviously out of her mind. Because she agrees to go with him – to The-Middle-Of-Nowhere, Mississippi – to do all she can to help Stanton win back the woman he loves.

Her head tells her she's crazy...and her heart says something else entirely.

What happens when you mix a one stop-light town, two professional arguers, a homecoming queen, four big brothers, some Jimmy Dean sausage and a gun-toting Nana?

The Bourbon flows, passions rise and even the best laid plans get overruled by the desires of the heart.

I’ve been really fixated on The Legal Briefs characters again lately, so I decided it was time to reread. I started this one on audio over the weekend. I’ve not gotten too far, but I’m loving the narrator and I’m ready to feel all the feels again!

WWW Wednesday [21]Rookie Move by Sarina Bowen
Series: Brooklyn Bruisers #1

In high school they were the perfect couple—until the day Georgia left Leo in the cold...

Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he’s called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team’s coach—who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers’ sexy, icy publicist—his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington.

Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do—and saying hello again isn’t much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast....

I love Sarina Bowen’s books, so it should probably come as absolutely no surprise that I adored Rookie Move. Sports romance + second chance romance + swoons for days and sexy times = a happy Kim. I know it doesn’t release until September, but it needs to be on your radar!

WWW Wednesday [21]Torn by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: A Wicked Saga #2
Genres: New Adult, Paranormal, Romance
Publication date: July 18, 2016
Publisher: Self-Published
Add it: Goodreads

Torn between duty and survival, nothing can be the same.

Everything Ivy Morgan thought she knew has been turned on its head. After being betrayed and then nearly killed by the Prince of the Fae, she’s left bruised and devastated—and with an earth-shattering secret that she must keep at all costs. And if the Order finds out her secret, they’ll kill her.

Then there’s Ren Owens, the sexy, tattooed Elite member of the Order who has been sharing Ivy’s bed and claiming her heart. Their chemistry is smoking hot, but Ivy knows that Ren has always valued his duty to the Order above all else—he could never touch her if he knew the truth. That is, if he let her live at all. Yet how can she live with herself if she lies to him?

But as the Fae Prince begins to close in on Ivy, intent on permanently opening the gates to the Otherworld, Ivy is running out of options. If she doesn’t figure out who she can trust—and fast—it’s not only her heart that will be torn apart, but civilization itself.

I’m SUPER EXCITED to say I did get a review copy of this book, so my waiting is almost over! I LOVED Wicked when I read it back in 2014. The characters, setting and story sucked me in from the very beginning. (If you’ve not read it yet, you should totes snag it for 99¢… just sayin’.)  I’ve been waiting for this sequel forever (or so it seems) and I can’t wait for more from Ren and Ivy. And Tink. Always. Freaking. Tink.

Sustained was my favorite book in the series. Closely followed by Appealed. I really enjoyed Overruled once I got over the beginning of the storyline. I know people had some pretty strong opinions about the relationships in the book, but I gotta say… it wasn’t exactly what it was made out to be in some posts. Stanton wasn’t the bad guy a lot of people made him out to be.

Yes! You do. It’s not my favorite in the series, but only because Sustained and Appealed were just flat-out amazing. This one was really, really good though.
