TBR Thursday [16]

Happy Thursday! You know what that means… time for a new TBR Thursday!

My feature was totally influenced by Teresa @ Readers Live a Thousand Lives and her On My Shelf posts. I love love love the idea of spotlighting a title from my shelf (or, you know, my eReader) and seeing what you think about it. Have you read it? Should I read it or put it back on the shelf? Sometimes it seems like everyone is reading the same books at the same time and older titles have a way of just fading from the radar. I love this way of featuring an older title and, of course, getting a chance to talk about it with other bloggers and readers. And I want to force myself to do it regularly, hence the TBR Thursday title.

If you’d like to join in on the fun, I’ve created a banner you can use – or you can always make your own! (Right click and save as to grab the image for yourself.) Share your links in the comments and I’ll swing by and visit!

Now, let’s talk about this week’s pick, shall we?

TBR Thursday [16]This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman, Meagan Spooner
Series: Starbound #2
Genres: Young Adult, Science Fiction
Publication date: December 23, 2014
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion
Add it: Goodreads
Buy it: Amazon

Jubilee Chase and Flynn Cormac should never have met.

Lee is captain of the forces sent to Avon to crush the terraformed planet's rebellious colonists, but she has her own reasons for hating the insurgents.

Rebellion is in Flynn's blood. Terraforming corporations make their fortune by recruiting colonists to make the inhospitable planets livable, with the promise of a better life for their children. But they never fulfilled their promise on Avon, and decades later, Flynn is leading the rebellion.

Desperate for any advantage in a bloody and unrelentingly war, Flynn does the only thing that makes sense when he and Lee cross paths: he returns to base with her as prisoner. But as his fellow rebels prepare to execute this tough-talking girl with nerves of steel, Flynn makes another choice that will change him forever. He and Lee escape the rebel base together, caught between two sides of a senseless war.

I really enjoyed These Broken Stars and I was excited to get my hands on the second book in the series. Despite having pre-ordered it (and owning both the hardcover and the audiobook) I just never have gotten around to reading it. I did briefly try to listen to the audio shortly after release, but I struggled to get into it. It might’ve been a mood thing. It might be that it’s different characters. I’m not sure. I’d love to finish the series, but I need some feedback!

  1. I am constantly amazed at how many books I just had to have…which are still languishing on my stacks or Kindle. But I’m trying to do better. This one has a lovely cover, and while it’s not my kind of read, you probably would love it if you enjoyed other books in the series.

Thanks for sharing…and here’s MY BOOKISH THURSDAY POST

  2. I’m totally in the same boat! I LOVED These Broken Stars, but when I got the second book, I never got around to reading it….hopefully I’ll get to it soon! Happy reading 😀

  3. I haven’t read These Broken Stars yet, but it’s on my TBR list and I hope to get to it sometime soon. If you read it and enjoyed it, I would think it likely that you would enjoy this book as well. Also, how can you not read something that has auch a beautiful cover! Wow! I think you should try reading it again. I’ve had plenty of times that I’ve started a book, put it down, and then later picked it up again and loved it. Maybe you could try reading the hardcover this time, it could have been a narrator problem. I didn’t like Cinder on audio, but I really liked the book. I say give it another try! Happy reading!

  4. Ohhh I’ve read this one! I listened to the audio and really enjoyed it! It does take a bit to get into but I think its because its new characters. I thought These Broken Stars was better but this one was still a good read.
