Happy Thursday! I’m excited to be introducing a new weekly feature on the blog today. After hitting the Googles, I see there are a whole bunch of bloggers who seem to be doing their own TBR Thursday posts, but I couldn’t find a host for a true weekly meme. (If I’m wrong, let me know.) Most of the posts I’ve seen seem to revolve around a TBR Jar and reading a book from it. I’m not going to do that. I mean, I have a TBR Jar (and it’s totally out of date) but I haven’t pulled a book from it in… months?
My feature was totally influenced by Teresa @ Readers Live a Thousand Lives and her On My Shelf posts. I love love love the idea of spotlighting a title from my shelf (or, you know, my eReader) and seeing what you think about it. Have you read it? Should I read it or put it back on the shelf? Sometimes it seems like everyone is reading the same books at the same time and older titles have a way of just fading from the radar. I love this way of featuring an older title and, of course, getting a chance to talk about it with other bloggers and readers. And I want to force myself to do it regularly, hence the TBR Thursday title.
I have literally hundreds of unread books in my apartment. (And let’s not even talk about the ones on my eReader.) One of my biggest bookish goals for 2016 is whittling down those unread books. It’s why I joined the Rock My TBR Challenge. It’s why I’ve
been tried to be REALLY picky about the ARCs I accept. I spent money on these books (even if it was just a little because they’re from library sales) and I’d like to get to reading them at some point! I talked a little more about this during my post on what I’m calling Book FOMO yesterday, if you’re interested.
But now? Let’s talk about one of those several hundred books I have floating around.
There’s nothing real about reality TV.
Seventeen-year-old Bonnie™ Baker has grown up on TV—she and her twelve siblings are the stars of one-time hit reality show Baker’s Dozen. Since the show’s cancellation and the scandal surrounding it, Bonnie™ has tried to live a normal life, under the radar and out of the spotlight. But it’s about to fall apart…because Baker’s Dozen is going back on the air. Bonnie™’s mom and the show’s producers won’t let her quit and soon the life she has so carefully built for herself, with real friends (and maybe even a real boyfriend), is in danger of being destroyed by the show. Bonnie™ needs to do something drastic if her life is ever going to be her own—even if it means being more exposed than ever before.
I picked this book up after reading and falling head over heels in love with I’ll Meet You There in 2014. I was in full-on “must read all of Heather’s books” mode at the time. (I’ve not read one since.) I love the cover and, as a former reality show junkie, this one sounds pretty appealing. I started reading it once and couldn’t get into it – which might’ve totally been my mood. I’ve just not picked it up again for whatever reason.
Have you read Something Real?
Should I read it or put it back on the shelf?
