The last two years I’ve participated in an “official” end of year wrap up challenge of sorts. In 2013 it was Fiktshun’s Top 13 of 2013. Last year, I co-hosted an event with a couple other bloggers. This year I decided to tackle it on my own because I haven’t had time to look for an existing event or think about hosting one of my own. So, from now until the end of December, I’ll be looking back on my year of bookish bests.
I thought it was tough to narrow my new adult picks to fifteen yesterday. (Ok, twenty. Whatever.) I can’t even begin to narrow down my adult favorites. I read some fantastic books this year (over 100 adult books!) and it’s hard to pick just 15. So I’m not going to apologize for cheating on this list. At all.
My Favorite Adult Books
Sustained was amazing. It was more than amazing. I don’t even have a word for this book and what it did to me. It’s my favorite Emma Chase book to date and even looking at the cover makes me want to read it again, right this second.
I really enjoyed Lia Riley’s Brightwater series, but if I had to pick, Best Worst Mistake would be my favorite. I have a thing for grumpy heroes. This Beauty & the Beast-esque retelling was sweet and sexy and perfect.
I’ve yet to read a Karina Halle book that didn’t work for me, but The Play stands out from all of them. I mean first, that cover. Gorgeous. But what’s between the covers is even better. I was totally engrossed in this story and though it’s a HUGE book, it didn’t feel like it. I still wanted more when it was all said and done.
When I read first read Driven by Fate I was convinced Tessa Bailey ruined me for all books forever. (At least books of this genre.) I mean hoooooooooly crap. So hot. Blisteringly hot. And with a fair few feels along the way too. It was tough to pick one single favorite from her in 2015, but I had to go with this one.
Priest is definitely of the “not for everyone” variety, but it blew my mind. And I’m not just talking about the sexy times either. Though they were a whole new kind of dirty for me and I loved it. I just loved Father Bell’s growth and the comparison between religion and sexuality. It totally lived up to the hype.
I love Sawyer Bennett’s Cold Fury Hockey series and somehow each new book seems to exceed the ones that came before. I don’t understand it either, because they’re all fantastic. But Ryker hit a special note with me. I loved this single father.
Motorcycle Man will always be special to me because it was my first ever Kristen Ashley book AND my first ever MC book. I fucking loved Tack, even if it took a little bit of time to get there with him. Kristen’s writing was perfection and I binged the hell out of her books as a result of reading this one.
Joe-Joe-Kah! I think he ruined me for all book men forever. (And probably a fair number of the real life ones, too.) I loved this book. So much. If I had to pick a favorite of all of KA’s books I’ve read so far, it would probably be Ride Steady.
It was tough deciding which of Elle Kennedy’s Killer Instincts books to highlight in this post. I ultimately went with Midnight Captive because I loved Sean. Also because of the way it ended and how it set up the upcoming book, Midnight Revenge. (Which was amazeballs, BTW.)
I think I mentioned how hard I fell for Candis Terry’s town of Sweet, Texas in another post during my Top 15 of 2015. Each book has a special place in my heart, but Truly Sweet was the one that brought it all together, wrapped it up and left me with ALL THE FEELS. What a wonderful series ender.
I just posted my review for Built two days ago and even thinking about it makes me want to go reread it immediately. Jay Crownover is a goddess and I’m so happy with how her new Saints of Denver series started out. I can’t wait for more in 2016.
If I could include each and every one of Megan Erickson’s books on my “best of” lists I totally would. As it was, it was hard as hell to narrow it down to two for this list. The first is Dirty Talk. I love the Peytons and the rest of the cast of characters in her blue collar Mechanics of Love series. Sweet, sexy and feel-filled times are guaranteed with this series!
The second of my Megan Erickson picks is Changing His Game. I’d said for a long time I needed books with hot, smart, geeky guys and Megan gave that and more to me with Austin. I loved him and Marley and all of the secondary characters. This series is fantastic. Nerd is the new black and the Gamers series is one of my favorites of 2015.
I’m a big fan of Entangled’s Brazen line because I love the bite-sized sexiness they bring. Nicolette Day brought the sexy with a HUGE dose of feels in Tempted by the Soldier. It’s a special book. If you’ve not experienced it for yourself, you need to get on that.
Asking for It isn’t for everyone. I wasn’t even sure it would be for me. But I’m glad I set aside any preconceived notions I had and went into it with an open mind. It was an incredible read.
My “best of” adult titles list wouldn’t be complete without these titles.
Have you read any of these books?
Would any of them make your top adult book list for the year?
