Her job is to stay hidden.
Too bad he can’t take his eyes off her.
Soldier-for-hire Ethan Hayes is the youngest member of an elite mercenary team. While he may be affectionately nicknamed the rookie, the skills Ethan honed as a Marine make him seriously dangerous. But when a sudden distress call puts him in close quarters with a rival, he finds more than his field skills being put to the test.
Juliet Mason stands out as the master thief in a covert group of assassins and spies. Her latest mission is personal—and it’s gone horribly wrong. Juliet may prefer to work alone, but when the rookie comes to her aid in snowy Eastern Europe, she can’t deny they make a good team. But even up against a powerful enemy, their most challenging task yet may be fighting the passion between them...
Have I mentioned I’m addicted to this series? Because really, I am. This is the first book in the series to get five stars and it earned it. Big time. I looooooooved Ethan. And Juliet, of course.
Ethan appeared earlier in the series as the wet-behind-the-ears rookie. He was young and didn’t seem quite as assertive as some of the other guys. But oh my holy hell, in this book? He was pure alpha – and a bit of a dirty talker. It was just so unexpected. I loved it. Juliet has been floating in the background for a couple books now, but she’s moved to the forefront in this Midnight Pursuits. I really liked her, too. She was a hardened assassin and thief, but there was much more to her underneath. I loved how the “good boy” Rookie got under her skin and their chemistry was amazing. They were so good together.
As much as I loved the slow burn of sexual tension between Ethan and Juliet – and the romance that results – I loved the plot just as much. This book goes from zero to sixty right at the start. Midnight Pursuits brings no holds barred action and suspense with revenge, political corruption and kidnappings. I literally couldn’t put it down. As Ethan and Juliet got deeper into this world I was left freaking out, worrying what would become of this pair. Would Juliet get revenge for her brother’s murder? Would she find out the real reason behind it? What else would they uncover in the process? Would they survive?
Elle has made me fall in love with romantic suspense, a genre a really never had much time for previously. So it pretty much goes without saying that if you are a fan of romantic suspense, you should be reading this series. Mercenaries and assassins and hot, good-intentioned alpha men and strong as hell women… oh my! I can’t ask for more than this.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
