That’s a Wrap: April 2015

Posted May 1, 2015 by Kim in That's a Wrap / 2 Comments

Well hello, May. I’m not sure where you came from, but I’m kinda really glad you’re here. You bring with you warmer weather and BEA, so I love you.

But first, let’s talk about April. It was a good bookish month. It was fairly lacking in non-bookish things though. I’m not going to get into all that though. I’ll just saying “being an adult sucks sometimes” and leave it at that.

Biggest highlight of April? The Cleveland Author Event! So much bookish fun! Plus I had a great time getting away for the weekend with my mom and it was wonderful to see friends again. If you want to know more, check out my wrap-up post. Here’s my favorite photo from the weekend, from one of the best bookish nights I’ve ever had. 🙂

Tessa Bailey is amazing and hosted a get together in her hotel suite for a group of readers, authors and bloggers. So naturally we all had to get into bed together. 😉 AMAZING night.

April was a fantastic month when it came to reading. I took an unplanned break from my “schedule” to binge on a new series I found myself completely addicted to. If you’re a romantic suspense fan, you have to check out Elle Kennedy’s Killer Instincts series! So freaking good. I read six books in one week. I literally couldn’t read anything else once I started this one. Because of this binge, I didn’t get as many May releases read in advance as I hoped to, but I’m not gonna feel bad about that. Not even for a minute.

One thing I failed at in April was updating my reviews to fit my new design and so they’ll show in my review archives. I need to do better at that. I hoped to have it all done by June, but… that might not happen as I’m still a couple hundred away from completion.

The strangest thing that happened in April was that time I inadvertently launched a Twitter uproar with one (slightly passive-aggressive) tweet about ARC envy and how ridiculous it is to behave like a jerk when someone gets a book you didn’t. So, yeah, if somewhere in the middle of last month you saw a day where EVERYONE was talking about ARC envy, I started that. The good news is, no fights came out of it. (At least for me.) It was just as though I’d given Twitter their table topic for the day. Oh, the power of a single tweet. (Something I planned to write a discussion post about, but somehow never got around to.)

I’m also going to use this space to talk about my new addiction. (Aside from Elle Kennedy’s romantic suspense books.) My name is Kim and I am a bangle-addict. I know this is a safe space so I can share it here. It all started innocently enough with one little bangle that I bought off eBay once I was added to the VBB Vixens on Facebook. It was cute and it had a book and said Vixen. Then, after a few days of seeing photos of ALL THE BANGLES Vilma and these other ladies wear, I went to the Alex and Ani site. It was all downhill from there. I couldn’t stop even if I wanted to. I’m not going to tell you how many bangles I own currently, but here’s a photo of one of my stacks. And if you want to see (nearly) daily photos, follow me on Instagram. If you’re into that kind of thing. 😉

Looking Ahead

It’s BEA month! It’s BEA month! I’ve not done a thing to prepare… aside from register for the conference (and I got a MEDIA badge, hooray!) and get a hotel room. Whenever I think about all the scheduling and planning, I tend to get a little overwhelmed, so I’ve been avoiding it. I need to get on that though. Like, this weekend. I am ridiculously excited to say that I’ve received invitations to a couple publisher parties this year. I didn’t get any last year, so I’m flailing all over the place. But more than the publisher invites, I’m just thrilled that I’ll get to see bookish friends and do bookish things, in my favorite city.

Will I see you there?

While I’m in New York, I’m going to get a chance to FINALLY meet one of my favorite authors and someone I’ve grown to call friend, Tina Torrest. She’s going to be at the Sexy in the City event on Saturday after BEA. (The same day as Book Con, which I’m avoiding like the plague.) I’m going to assist her and I can’t freaking wait. I’ll also get to see Tessa Bailey and Laura Kaye again, too. It’s gonna be so much fun!

Remember how I said I sucked at reading upcoming releases in April? Well these are the May releases I’m most excited about, have an ARC of, but just haven’t gotten to yet. Soon. Very soon.

  1. Aww I spy Christina back there next to you! I’m SO jelly! That looks like a blast!

You’re killing me with the Elle Kennedy books. I should’ve taken the plunge too and just got them. Oh I really wanted to read Chanel’s book! I’m glad you liked it! LOVED Play On! Aflame and Need Me were also greatness

I am so sad I’m not going to BEA. I got an invite from Atria’s Newsroom, and I so wish I could go. I loved seeing everyone last year! 🙁 I wish we could hang out!

We have the same books on our May agenda! I read Nowhere But Here and I really hope you like it too! And I’m hoping to reread Tessa for next week. SO READY FOR JASON SWOONS!

Ok, I am supposed to be reading, so I must go. <3

I will first start by quoting you “being an adult sucks sometimes”, I had pneumonia almost all of march and had to get my friend to look after my bunny..which also sucked..it took almost all of april to get her back to her loving-me attitude again”…so I too look forward mightily to the onset of May..and the enjoyable weather/sights it brings
