All former Navy SEAL Mason Lawson craves is solitude. Unfortunately, his new neighbor won’t allow him the peace he so desperately needs. Between the traffic and the music, Mason is constantly on edge—not exactly what the doctor ordered for someone recovering from a bullet to the leg. However, when he finally has enough and confronts his neighbor, nothing can prepare him for how hot he’d get for the teacher next door.
Piano teacher, Skylar Jernigan, loves everything about the town of Jessamine—from the quaint Main Street shops to the people who own them. Unfortunately, once she’s chewed up and spit out by her sexy neighbor, Skylar begins to question her decision to move to a new town. Until, that is, she learns he’s suffering from a war wound and refuses to have anything to do with his family.
Now, Skylar is determined to help Mason recover—mentally, physically and socially—until he turns the tables and sets out to seduce Skylar right out of her meddling ways. Only seduction turns into something more and soon, Mason can’t stop looking for excuses to be with her. But when the Navy wants Mason to reenlist for a dangerous mission, will Skylar be too irresistible for him to leave?
Marquita drew me into Masons’s story as soon as I read the first chapter at the end of Love So True. There’s just something about military men – and wounded veterans who are suffering – that I love. I mean, I don’t love their suffering of course, but I love watching them heal and become whole again. Their stories never fail to grab on and hold tight. Mason’s was no exception.
I can’t even lie, grouchy Mason won my heart nearly immediately. My heart ached for him after he had his PTSD attack in the first chapter. No one should have to suffer like that, and unfortunately it’s all too common. I understood his desire to withdraw from society and be alone. But I loved more how Skylar pushed him and helped him to realize what he’d been missing.
It was impossible not to like Skylar. She was smart, talented, witty and thoughtful. She saw the kind of pain Mason was suffering and she was determined to try to make it better, even if that meant putting herself out there and risking rejection. I loved her scenes with Lemmon, the friendship that developed between them and just how much the nosy matchmaker pushed her to go after Mason when she was getting discouraged.
Mason and Skylar were fantastic together. I enjoyed their banter. I loved watching Mason’s walls crumble while she slowly inserted herself into his life. Yes, I love an assertive woman. I was completely drawn into their story and hoped they could find a way to make things work. They had the feelings and the passion, they just needed to find a way past Mason’s issues so they could move forward.
Love So Irresistible was a pretty light book and a super quick read, but it definitely packed a punch. I won’t be forgetting this one anytime soon. Now I’m back to chomping at the bit waiting on the next book in The Lawsons Brothers series and it’s Lemmon’s! Oh I can’t wait to find out what happens!
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
