Darcy Stone is game for anything — except sexy Navy veteran and physical therapist A.J. Colten, the guy who'd rejected her when she'd needed him most. Now the shoe is on the other foot and he needs her to play nice and help him secure grants for his patients. Unfortunately, Darcy can't refuse. She needs the money to fund her passion project: rescuing S&R dogs and placing them with emotionally wounded soldiers.

A.J. admits it — Darcy is irresistible. But he's already been battle-scarred by a strong-willed, vivacious, adventurous woman like Darcy, and he's not making the same mistake twice—until he and Darcy are forced to fake a relationship. Growing closer than they'd ever imagined possible, Darcy and AJ have to ask themselves: how much between them is pretend? What's the real thing? And where does it go from here?

in review my thoughts

I can’t believe I call myself a romance fan and yet this is the first Jill Shalvis book I’ve picked up. I mean, it’s not as though I’d never heard of her… But for some unknown reason, I just never read one of her books until now. Believe me when I tell you I plan to work my way through her backlist soon. This was such a great, charming book.

I’m a sucker for a book with a great small town setting and Still the One has that. I can’t wait to go back and read the earlier books in the Animal Magnetism series and learn more about the characters I met in this book. Speaking of characters, Darcy and A.J. were wonderful. I loved their antagonistic relationship and the banter between them. Jill Shalvis gives great banter and sexual tension. I couldn’t get enough of these two characters together – though part of me wanted to lock them in a room and hope they found a way to work through that tension. 😉

Still the One was a great introduction to the Animal Magnetism series and Shalvis’ writing. Though I’d not read any of the previous books in the series, I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. This book can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone. And believe me, you will enjoy it. I loved the characters on their own – and even more when they were together. Their story was addicting and I couldn’t get enough. This sweet, swoony and sexy romance was exactly what I needed when I read it. I’m definitely looking forward to reading more of Jill’s book in the very near future.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
