When one touch isn’t enough, why resist?
Road trips are supposed to be fun. Or, at least, full of hot sex. For photographer Lilly Grayson, the fifteen-hour drive to her friend’s wedding with Nate Jennings will be neither. Not that Nate isn’t sexy—the man is six-foot-three-inches of mouth-watering Marine. But Lilly’s been there, done that…and he walked away. Now it’s time for a little payback. The kind that’ll make a man desperate for a taste of what he can’t have.
And Nate wants a taste—so badly that he can barely keep his hands on the wheel. But the scars and ghosts of his last tour still haunt him. He can’t give into temptation, not this time. Lilly deserves a whole man—one who can love her the way she deserves to be loved, even if she doesn’t believe it can happen. And that can’t be Nate. Not when he’s leaving again in two weeks, and this time, he’s not sure he’ll return…
I knew within the first couple pages that I’d stumbled upon an amazing book with Tempted by the Soldier. Of course, I knew of Lilly and Nate from reading No Strings Attached, but I had no idea how easily I would connect with them and how deeply their story would move me. Books like this one are why I love reading so much. This was nothing short of perfection.
I loved Lilly. Her first scenes with her friend Paige grabbed me. I liked her attitude and her humor. I wanted to know more about her feud with Nate and their history. Nate was a complicated guy. His story isn’t necessarily new. I’ve read many a book about a soldier who suffers with memories of things he saw overseas and the guilt that he made it home when so many didn’t. But this is one of the best of the bunch. I felt everything he was dealing with and understood why it left him in the state that it did. I wanted to hug him. I wanted to make it better. I wanted to push him and Lilly together, lock them in a room and make them finally be honest with each other. I wanted it all.
I got the next best thing – them in a car during a road trip. (Have I mentioned I love road trip books? And antagonist relationships? I totally do.) No longer able to hide from the pull between them, walls came down and feelings were faced head on. I loved every single minute of it. It was sexy, sweet, the good kind of angsty and full of feels.
Seriously, nothing I can say about Tempted by the Soldier will do it any kind of justice. This is one you just need to pick up and experience for yourself. It’s easily one of my top five Brazens of all time – and one of the best books I’ve read so far this year. I hope this series continues. I’d love for Paige to get a book.
