It's her best friend's wedding, and Autumn Lane is trussed up in a pink bridesmaid dress with a big “everything is great” smile plastered across her face. She's not going think about her life imploding, or spending the next two weeks housesitting in the ridiculously small town of Diamond. No, she'd rather think about the tattooed hottie in the wedding party...and how to turn the wicked way he’s looking at her into a night of intense pleasure.
Huck Galvin is fiercely attracted to his mystery woman's no-BS attitude, but their one-night-no-strings plan backfires when Huck discovers that Autumn is the out-of-towner he's “chaperoning” for the next two weeks. Outside the bedroom, the two can’t stand each other, yet Huck can’t deny how much he wants one more night with her. But Autumn isn't going to make it easy for Huck. Not by a long shot...
I’m a fan of Joya Ryan’s Chasing Love series, so I was thrilled to get the opportunity to read and review Chasing Desire before its release. Much like the first two books in this standalone series, it was a quick and sexy read that I couldn’t get enough of once I picked it up.
If I’m being honest, it did take me some time to connect with Autumn and Huck. Huck probably more than Autumn. She might have been “expiration dating” (or, I suppose, expiration hooking up) but she wasn’t averse to the thought of ALL relationships. She just didn’t want to be hurt and she didn’t want to rely on others. Huck had quite a bit of baggage and, at times, it felt like he was using Autumn to try to get over his ex. A playboy who likes things on his terms, who likes to be the one to walk away, his thoughts and actions betrayed that. Autumn definitely got under his skin in a way no one had in a long time.
Despite my initial misgivings about these two, I actually found myself really liking them by the end. I love when flawed characters grow throughout the course of a book, just like Autumn and Huck did. They grew together. They challenged each other. They had chemistry from the very start and it was easy to see. They were passionate and their sexy times were seriously hot. But, more than anything, I enjoyed reading those small moments in which it was apparent their relationship was changing into something else.
Chasing Desire was a great addition to the Chasing Love series. I enjoyed Autumn and Huck’s story and I loved catching up with characters from the earlier books. I’ll definitely be looking forward to Joya’s next book!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
