Top 14 of 2014: New-to-Me Authors

Posted December 25, 2014 by Kim in Top 14 of 2014 / 6 Comments

It’s finally time for the Top 14 of 2014! I’m excited to look back over my year in books and share my favorites with you. 🙂 First up on the schedule is my top 14 new-to-me authors.

Don’t forget, there’s still time to participate in this meme (and enter to win some great prizes from me, Krista from Krista’s Dust Jacket and  Jessica from A Midsummer Night’s Read! Make a post and link it up below. I can’t wait to see your favorites!

Tessa Bailey

Protecting What's His His Risk to Take Officer Off Limits Asking for Trouble Staking His Claim Riskier Business Risking It All Baiting the Maid of Honor Owned By Fate Exposed by Fate Unfixable

I’m almost embarrassed to admit that, before June of this year, I’d never read a Tessa Bailey book. How did that happen!? I’m not sure how I survived before meeting Tessa’s AMAZING hot, sexy and dirty men. With ELEVEN BOOKS, Tessa’s my most-read author of the year. She’s also one I talk about the most with friends. (Also, I’m two books away from having read ALL her books – including the ones releasing in early 2015 – this year. I’m gonna find a way to make it happen.)

Karina Halle

Sins & Needles Shooting Scars Bold Tricks Love in English LoveInSpanisheBook Donners of the Dead The Pact

Karina Halle is another author whose work I can’t believe I didn’t read before this year. I met her at an author event last December and she was so nice. I knew I needed to read one of her books. Horror isn’t really my thing, so I read the The Artists Trilogy (which was also a bit outside my comfort zone at first) and OMG I fell in love. Love, in English is what put her on my auto-buy author list though. I haven’t looked back since.

Tessa Teevan

So apparently I have a thing for authors with the name Tessa… I discovered this Tessa in January when curiosity got the best of me and I finally picked up Ignite after seeing so many positive reviews. I fell in love with Jace and each of her new men has outdone the last. I love these guys. And, the leading ladies are every bit as incredible. I look forward to reading every single one of her new books in 2015 and beyond!

Kim Karr

Connected Torn Dazed Mended Blurred Frayed

When I had the opportunity to read and review Blurred and Frayed, I knew I had to read the entire series. I’m glad I did. I might not have loved every book, but I definitely enjoyed them and look forward to more in the series!

Samantha Young

On Dublin Street_200x300 Down London Road Before Jamaica Lane Fall From India Place Echoes of Scotland Street

I know. I know. I fail hard. Does it help that I read the entire On Dublin Street series this year? (Except the novellas.) I’m not sure why I waited so long, but I can’t apologize for being able to binge read these books. 🙂

Sarina Bowen

The Year We Fell Down The Year We Hid Away Blonde Date The Understatement of the Year cover

Sarina Bowen quickly moved to the top of my favorite new adult authors list this year. Each book is better than the last and I’ve loved them all in their own way. Another milestone relating to Sarina: The Understatement of the Year was my first M/M book. It wasn’t, however, my last. I love this series so freaking hard!

Alice Clayton

Wallbanger_Cover Rusty Nailed Screwdrivered Mai Tai'd Up

Alice Clayton is another author I can’t believe I waited until this year to discover. I mean, I don’t live under a rock, so I’d heard of her books, but I hadn’t read any. I still need to read her Redhead series, but I’m totally in love with all things Cocktail.

Ann Aguirre

IWantItThatWay AsLongAsYouLoveMe TheShapeofMyHeart

Put simply, I fell in love with Ann Aguirre’s books this year. When one of my favorite publicists recommended I Want It That Way to me, I knew I had to read it. I loved it so freaking hard. It’s my favorite book in the series, but the other two 2B Trilogy books have a special place in my heart, and on my bookshelves, too.

Samanthe Beck

Best Man with Benefits Light Her Fire Falling for the Enemy

Samanthe Beck is probably my third favorite Brazen author. I discovered her as part of the same Brazen series that was my gateway drug into Tessa Bailey’s books. (Wedding Dare series. Get on that. Seriously.) I’ve only read two of her other books to this point, but I think I own all of them. Just gotta find the time!

Christina Lauren

Sweet Filthy Boy Sweet Filthy Morning After Dirty Rowdy Thing

So this one might be a bit of a stretch. I *tried* to read Beautiful Bastard last year, but it didn’t work for me so I stopped reading it. It wasn’t until a friend started raving about their new Wild Seasons book (and Ansel, specifically) that I decided to give their books another shot. And you know what happened? I fell head over heels in love. Ansel was incredible. Finn was hot and dirty and amazing. I can’t wait for Oliver’s story. I LOVE THIS SERIES. I am going to go back and give the Beautiful Bastard series another shot. It could’ve just been my mood at the time. 🙂

Lia Riley

Upside Down Sideswiped Inside Out

Lia Riley’s Off the Map series grabbed my attention from the start! It was sweet and sexy and full of angsty feels. I really look forward to more from her in 2015!

Megan Erickson

Before this holiday is over, I’ll have read all of Megan’s Bowler University series. I just love her books and her characters so much. (She’s pretty awesome, too!) She’s got a HUGE year ahead in 2015 and I can’t wait to devour every. single. book. she releases.

Macy Beckett

Make You Mine Make You Remember

I’ve passed up books from this author because I feared they would be too much like my mom’s favorite romance books. Was I ever wrong. They’re still sexy and full of feels… just the way I like my contemporary romance. I look forward to reading even more of Macy’s books in the coming year!

Julie Cross

Third Degree Whatever Life Throws at You

I’ve only read two of Julie’s books this year, but I’m determined to start in on her backlist in 2015. I love-love-loved both Third Degree and Whatever Life Throws at You. I can’t wait for more of her writing and characters.

Haven’t read any of these but Alice Clayton and loved the wallbanger. Will be checking them out in 2015. Thanks for recommendations. Will have to work on my blog post. Will link once it’s up

Kim, your list reads like a who’s who in the romance world! LOL. I NEED to read Tessa Baily before Apollycon. I’ve heard such good things. Which one should I read first? And, you know what? The first time I read Beautiful Bastard, I wasn’t enamored either. The second book, though – LOVED IT. I’ve read the whole series now, plus the Wild Nights series (Ansel and Finn are just the bees knees). I love Christina Lauren! Love your list!
