I was tagged by Stephanie at No BS Book Reviews to tell answer 20 questions about things you may not know about me! It took me forever, but I finally got around to doing it!
Here we go…
1. How tall are you?
I’m average height… 5’6″ on a good day. I’ve always been surrounded by short women and extremely tall men… which makes things interesting.
2. Do you have a hidden talent? If so, what is it?
I don’t know that it’s necessarily hidden, but I do have quite an eye for photography. Since I started blogging, I haven’t spent as much time feeding my photo-bug, but if you’d like to see some of my photos, hit up my Flickr page. It’s probably also pretty obvious that I enjoy making teaser images for books I love. 🙂
3. What is your biggest blog-related pet peeve?
I’m all for snark and sarcasm (or snarkasm as I like to call it) and thoughtful discussion, but I find it appalling the way some people attack other bloggers for their opinions and things they’ve posted on their blog. My opinions are mine. We all love (and hate) different things about books and when we write about them in what we consider a safe space, we don’t expect to have someone jump down our throats. You didn’t like that book? Great. It’s your right to not like it. I hated it and you loved it? Good for you! I’m glad you enjoyed it; it just wasn’t for me. Differing opinions are fine – and discussion is encouraged – but there’s just no need to get nasty.
4. What is your biggest non-blog related pet peeve?
Boy it’s tough to narrow this down to just one. But, I think I have to go with the people I affectionately call “left-lane-hangers.” The DC area has a lot of big, busy roads, but the usual rules of the road hold true. Slower traffic should keep right and the hell out of my way in the left lane. Just because the lane is there doesn’t mean you have to drive in it when you’re going 2 MPH over the speed limit. Move over. I’ve got someplace to be. Or not. But I just don’t like being held up.
5. What’s your favorite song?
This makes me sound like such an old person, but I really don’t like popular music these days. I find a lot of it completely obnoxious, and if I’m honest, I’d rather listen to an audiobook than crappy radio music. And I can’t tell you the last time I bought an album. In the spirit of the holiday season, however, I’ll give you one of my favorite Christmas songs and leave it at that. Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You is a perennial favorite (and has been since it came out when I was in high school). It’s a total “dance around your bedroom in your underwear song” and it always puts a smile on my face.
I try to avoid Etsy as much as possible because it’s rather dangerous to my wallet. These are two of my favorite shops, though, when I’m in the mood to indulge. Or, you know, shop for gifts. 🙂
I love-love-love upscaled bookish art and these quotes and images on recycled dictionary pages are incredible. I’ve yet to buy any, but I have a whole bunch of them on my wish list. I do have two gorgeous versions with not book quotes, but NYC landmarks on them. <3
I am in looooooooove with these bookmarks. I just recently placed my first order and I can’t wait to get these beauties.
7. What’s your favorite way to spend your free time when you’re alone?
Reading or blogging top the list, but I also love rewatching beloved TV shows like Veronica Mars, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Friday Night Lights and The West Wing on Netflix. If it’s a Saturday during the months of August through December, you can find me camped out on the couch watching ALL THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL. I bleed blue and gold (Let’s gooooooo Mountaineers!) but I’ll watch pretty much any game that’s on because I love college football. I do watch the NFL, too. It’s just not as enjoyable to me.
8. What’s your favorite junk food?
Cheese Pringles or Trader Joe’s Cookie Butter. With animal crackers. Or, you know, on a spoon all by itself.
9. Do you have pets?
I do! I have two cats: Punkin’ Head and C.A.T. Don’t judge. The names were a joint effort between me and my roommates at the time. Now that I live on my own, I have exceeded the pet-to-human ratio in a home, but it’s ok. I wouldn’t give these two up for anything.
10. What are your favorite fiction and non-fiction books?
You do know this “favorite books” question is the most difficult thing you can ask a bookworm, right? I have hundreds of favorite books, but the ones which have stuck with me the most are…
The Fault in Our Stars
The Sea of Tranquility
Harry Potter series
I don’t read a lot of nonfiction, but two titles that have stuck with me are The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama and Big Russ and Me by Tim Russert.
11. What is your favorite beauty product?
It’s a real toss-up between my C.O. Bigelow Cinnamon Supreme 2X lip gloss and my Tarte Smooth Operator Powder.
12. When were you last embarrassed?
It takes a LOT to embarrass me, generally speaking, but I’ve had two relatively embarrassing book + work incidents in the last few weeks. The first came when I was talking about how excited I was over a book teaser graphic I put together and my coworker (ahem, boss) said, “Show me!” and I did … without taking the wording on the graphic into consideration. Both coworkers are female and found it hilarious, but I was mortified. Here’s the graphic in question…
The second ridiculously embarrassing moment came when I opened a package at work and it contained a gorgeous paperback of Tessa Teevan’s Conflagration. I took a photo of it and just left it lying on my desk. My boss’ boss’ boss (a man) dropped by to talk to me and kept looking at it from my doorway. I turned seven shades of red and hid the paperback. He said “No worries. I just thought I was looking in a mirror.” I’m not sure if that made it better or worse. This is the cover…
Yes, hard nipples and all. Sigh.
13. If you could drink one beverage for the rest of your life, what would it be?
It’s a toss-up between good ol’ water and Dunkin’ Donuts Iced Coffee. Or any coffee, really.
14. What’s your favorite movie?
As with books, I have many, many favorites. Beauty and the Beast and Bedknobs & Broomsticks are two of my childhood favorites and Remember the Titans and Shawshank Redemption are two of my favorite adult picks.
15. What were you in High School? Prom Queen, Nerd, Cheerleader, Jock, Valedictorian, Band Geek, Loner, Artist, etc?
I didn’t really fit into a category. I was in the top 10 academically in my class and my teachers loved me, I was editor of the yearbook, friends with all the football players and cheerleaders (the popular kids), played volleyball and just generally got along with everyone. Of course, high school was VERY different then than it is now. 🙂
16. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
New York City. No question. I fell in love with the city the minute I stepped foot into it 3 years ago. I don’t get to travel up there as frequently as I wish, but every time I go, I find something more to love about it.
17. PC or Mac?
I used to be a PC, but then I learned better. I have a personal Macbook Pro and work Macbook Pro (with two 27″ monitors!), an iPad mini, iPhone and an iPod Touch. Oh, and an Apple TV. 🙂
18. Last romantic gesture from a crush, date, Boyfriend/Girlfriend?
Ooh boy. This is a tough one. None of the guys I’ve dated have ever been particularly romantic… which is probably why they’re my exes. Generally speaking, I don’t *need* big romantic gestures though. I’m all about the small every day moments. I used to date this one guy who was great at treating me like a queen after I’d had a rough day at work. Whether it was cooking dinner or surprising me with flowers or something small, he was often pretty sweet like that.
19. Favorite Celeb?
I have to go with my future husband here… Jeremy Renner. I’m in love with him and his arms. *swoons*
20. Which blogger do you secretly want to be best friends with?
I would love to be friends with Anna from Anna Reads. Hers was the first book blog I followed well before I ever considered starting one of my own. She single-handedly introduced me to some of my very favorite young adult books.
Thanks for the tag, Stephanie! This was fun. Now I’m tagging:
