My rating:

A man dances the same way he fucks. His stamina, his rhythm, the slow grind of his hips. Some people are born to it, others learn through years of careful study.

And dancers? We do it best of all.

The moment I saw her, I knew. Her innocence is intoxicating. My lust is fierce. Primal. To watch her dance is to know the torment of true temptation.

She will be mine.

In Review My Thoughts

For those who, like me, thought this was a brand new series, I hate to break it to you – it’s not. It’s actually a retelling of Melody’s With Every Heartbeat with some new scenes from Raphael’s POV, told in serial format. I loved With Every Heartbeat when I read it, so I’m excited about the new content, but a little disappointed that it’s not something entirely new. Of course, I know how the story ends, too, so it’s a little difficult to rate this one. I tend to find serials hard to review, anyhow, and this one is just more so because I know this story. In all honesty, it’s probably closer to 3.5 stars. I rated With Every Heartbeat five stars when I read it originally. So I know this story is just going to keep getting better.

Once I realized this wasn’t a new story, I tried to pretend I hadn’t already read it. It was hard to separate it from With Every Heartbeat, so I think I was a bit disappointed because I wanted more. There’s not a lot of action in this installment. It’s more like a sexy tease of things to come. But, First Position did exactly what the first part of a serial should do: it hooked me in and made me anxious to get the second part.

I loved Annalise and Raphael in With Every Heartbeat, but I did find it a little difficult to reconnect with them this time. I’m sure that as their story continues and their connection grows, I’ll find myself completely enamored with them once again. Annalise and Raphael’s original story had all the passion you would expect of a love affair in Rome. If it’s truly been written to be even hotter, I can’t wait to get to the steamy parts. I thought they were pretty sexy in the original book.

I received a copy of this book from the author, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
