I’m just a girl…
I’m a famous country star who’s spent her life cultivating a good girl persona to avoid bad press, but I’ve reached my limit. I’m going away for spring break with my two best friends from college, and we’ve vowed to spend the vacation seeking out fun in the sun—along with some hot, no-strings-attached sex. The only thing I needed was the perfect guy, and then I met Austin Murphy. He might be totally wrong for me, but the tattooed bad boy is hard to resist. When I’m in his arms, everything just feels right.
And I’m just a guy…
I’m just a bartender who lives in Key West, stuck in an endless cycle of boredom. But then Mackenzie Forbes, America’s Sweetheart herself, comes up to me and looks at me with those bright green eyes…and everything changes. She acts like she’s just a normal girl and I’m just a normal guy, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. My past isn’t pretty, you know. I did what I had to do to survive, and she’d run if she learned the truth about my darkness. But with her, I’m finally realizing what it’s like to be alive. To laugh, live, and be happy.
All good things must come to an end…

This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Between Us was everything I wanted in a sexy and romantic novella. I love this Sex on the Beach series and I hope these writers will consider writing a follow-up novella series following these characters. Not that the stories weren’t complete as they are, but darn it, I want more of these characters.
Mackenzie just wants to escape the limelight, get laid and have a good time while on spring break with her friends. A country singer with a reputation that’s far from truthful, she just wants to live a little. When she meets Austin, she thinks he will be the perfect fling. What she doesn’t expect is that she will connect with him in another way, as well.
Austin, the bartender with a past, lives in Key West. He has a lot of secrets and manages to keep most of them by not getting close with others. When he hooks up with Mackenzie, he expects it to be just another fling. He’s no stranger to them, after all. He doesn’t do relationships. But, after spending some time with Mackenzie, he realizes that maybe this time he wants to.
I adored both Mackenzie and Austin. They were easy to like and connect with and I found myself completely invested in their story. I loved the chemistry between them. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t all perfect. Their fling was probably as un-fling like as possible, but that’s what I loved about it. They were both keeping secrets and both had serious trust issues that led to some big disagreements. (It also led to me yelling at them to trust each other and be honest!) But there was no denying the attraction and the feelings they felt for each other, regardless how hard they each tried.
Between Us made me feel all the feels. This novella had depth, and so did the characters. It also had some seriously romantic and super sexy moments. It, too, fit in so nicely with the other books in the Sex on the Beach series. If you like sweet and sexy new adult romances, I really can’t recommend this novella, or this series, highly enough.
