“In its purest form love is self-sacrificing, eternal, selfless, enduring, truthful, forgiving and indulgent. It also feels an awful lot like a kick to the stomach when you try to fight it!”

All Everleigh Carsen wanted to do was complete her final semester at Hensley University and begin the life she carefully planned.

When a wave of violent crime seizes campus, Everleigh is persuaded to attend a school sponsored self-defense seminar by her best friend, where she meets volunteer instructor, Hunter Charles. After Everleigh’s biting sarcasm induces Hunter to eject her from class, a tempestuous relationship is born.

Everleigh is determined to forget the striking man, but fate—that fickle shrew—continuously intervenes. Unable to escape him, she declares Hunter an enemy combatant. The only complication…Hunter is resolutely pursuing vindication…by any means necessary. Verbal warfare ensues, and despite Everleigh’s ingenious efforts, in Hunter, she has finally found her equal.

Only For You is a compelling tale of friendship, desire, and redemption—brimming with intelligent characters, witty dialogue, unexpected twists, profound sorrow, unfettered hope, and love’s unassailable perseverance.

• This story is appropriate for readers 18+
• Only For You is the first book in the For You series by Genna Rulon. Each book in the series can be read as a stand alone novel.

As a wave of violence against women hits her campus. Everleigh and her best friend, Sam, decide to take a self-defense class to learn how to protect themselves. It’s in this class that Everleigh first meets Hunter Charles, the scorchingly-hot, alpha male martial arts instructor who is one of the class’ teachers. When her snarky, sarcastic comments cause him to kick her out of the class for the day, she is absolutely mortified and decides he’s a total asshole. It’s virtually hate at first sight. As she begins to see him in classes and run into him at her job, she all but declares war on him… until a mistaken assumption about his sexual orientation leads her to decide to befriend him. Thus beginning my favorite type of relationship – the friendship-first slow burn with oodles of chemistry and sexual tension. The type I just can’t wait to see catch on fire… and explode.

“He was the human equivalent of a perfect piece of fruit featured on a magazine cover – impossibly succulent, such perfection couldn’t be real.”

“The command his voice wielded over my body was disconcerting. Was he a cyborg created to epitomize masculine perfection, testing the restraint of earthly women? it seemed a viable explanation.”

“I’m quitting food and becoming a manivore,” Sam smacked her lips to emphasize her point.

Hunter Charles was absolutely swoon-worthy. He was gorgeous and built. He’s a black belt in five different forms of martial arts. He’s commanding, protective and more than a little mysterious. Everleigh was witty and sarcastic and he was her equal. The dialogue between them snapped and popped. I really liked both he and Everleigh. She was a great, strong female character. I could easily relate to her, or at the very least with her caffeine addiction. 😉 Each of the main characters in this novel brought something very special to the story.

“Could a person die from gratification deprivation? It certainly felt like it was a possibility.”

“I stepped off the merry-go-round for a reason, Griff. It made me dizzy and I kept ending up in the same spot. It may have been fun for a short ride, but it was never headed anywhere.”

As the crimes on campus remain unsolved and continue to grow increasingly violent, everyone is on-edge. Hunter becomes more and more protective of Everleigh, but is it just because of the crimes or is it because he has feelings for her and she’s started going on dates with someone else? Their back and forth continues and once Everleigh realizes he’s not gay, she decides to seduce him. Things are slightly strained when he turns down her advances because of timing. Everleigh is hurt and confused. She doesn’t want to lose him as a friend, but she can’t continue on this way. The attraction she feels for him is too strong; their chemistry too powerful. It’s only a matter of time before it all explodes.

“I need you. You are not temporary.”

“It was amazing. Earth shattering, mind blowing, it was everything. I’m hopelessly in love with him and destined to be destroyed in the near future.”

I found myself rooting for Everleigh and Hunter throughout the entire book. They were well-matched. The attraction and sexual tension between them jumped off the pages. They were just so right for each other. I only hoped they would give in eventually. The dialogue and their interactions are perfection. The storyline is so wonderful, you just have to find out for yourself how it all ends.

This was a powerful book. I was completely sucked in; I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. I had to know what happened, not just with Everleigh and Hunter, but with the violent crime wave on campus. The attacks were horrifying. I needed to know who the person responsible was, I just hoped it wasn’t someone I liked. I was on edge for a good portion of the book as the severity of the attacks increased, terrified Everleigh or Sam would be targeted. Only for You gives readers a fantastic mix of friendship, love and lust, humor and heart, secrets and lies, mixed with suspense and drama.

“You’re going to listen to me, and for once you’re going to hear what I say and not read between lines that aren’t there.”

If you like books with strong characters, a unique plot filled with a mix of sweet, sexy and suspenseful moments, his book is an absolute must-read. I’m so, so glad Genna contacted me to read and review this book… I’m even happier I said yes. I can’t wait to read more from her. If her first novel is any indicator, she has a fan for life right here.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
